Meet Shweta Parmar, Gujarat’s First And India’s Fourth Licensed Civilian Woman Skydiver

I have always been fascinated by adventure sports. After going snorkelling in Bali and paragliding in Himachal Pradesh, the next thing on my list is sky diving. I am terrified by the concept of jumping out of a plane with only a parachute to rely on but I can’t wait to feel the insane air pressure on my face. It’s the closest we can come to flying, who wouldn’t want the chance, right? Although, activities like sky diving still haven’t become as popular in India as they are all around the world. Having said that, today we are talking about a woman who has made us proud by becoming the fourth licensed civilian skydiver in India. She is such an inspiration.

On Tuesday, 28-year-old Shweta Parmar from Vadodara made history by becoming Gujarat’s first and India’s fourth licensed civilian woman skydiver. According to her, there is no experience quite as stimulating as skydiving. She has become an inspiration to young girls who might also want to pursue adventure sports but are afraid of what society might think.

Speaking to the media about sky diving, Shweta said, “I am really very happy that I have been able to make my state and country proud. I have been receiving congratulatory messages from people and I feel that I will be able to become an inspiration for people, especially youngsters and girls.” Further adding, “Skydiving is an experience that cannot be replaced by any other experience. It is special and close to my heart. Now, I want to skydive without an instructor, because I feel that if I am able to enjoy skydiving with an instructor so much, doing it without an instructor would be a totally different experience.”

Before Shweta, Padma Shri awardees Rachel Thomas, Shital Mahajan, and the country’s first female base jumper Archana Sardana were the only licensed woman skydivers in the country.
