Man Releases Rape Video To Stop Victim From Marrying
Women in India have been subjugated to rape for years now. And even after being a victim of rape, the struggle doesn’t end. Society, a convoluted understanding of the law, all of these things cause issues for a rape victim, working against them as they hope to move on in their life. We say that time heals everything. But that’s not always the case – especially when the past of a rape victim is brought back to life on the most important day of their life. The day when she thinks that she’s finally moved on.
Recently, a video of a minor girl’s rape in Gopalganj went viral on the internet. The video was from two years ago when she was raped and was released by one of the five accused (all in their 20s now) of raping her.
The Gopalganj SP Anand Kumar has ordered for a special team to lead the investigation and arrest the five accused of rape – Abhishek Sharma, Dipu Dubey, Nitesh Dubey, Lalu Thakur, and Lalji Sharma. The special team of police will be led by Hathua SPO Naresh Kumar. SP Anand Kumar said that the video was leaked by Abhishek Sharma after he learned about the girl’s marriage.
Gopalganj SP also added that an FIR was filed at the Kateya police station on the victim’s complaint, on Monday. According to the police investigation, Abhishek Sharma was in a relationship with the victim when the rape incident took place. The rape incident took place during the Chhath and happened in a village that fell under the jurisdiction of Kateya police station, Gopalganj. The victim at the time was a minor – 16-years-old.
Anand Kumar revealed details about the rape case, stating that “The four other accused had caught Abhishek with the girl in an objectionable position and gang-raped her taking advantage of the situation. The victim had not approached the police due to various reasons.”
SDPO said that the rape victim was all set to marry someone but Abhishek Sharma started blackmailing her to marry him. He said, “The girl ignored him. He finally leaked the video with the motive to get her marriage canceled. Infuriated after coming to know about her viral video, the victim went to Abhishek’s house and told him that she was going to approach the police. Abhishek has been absconding since then.”
After which the rape victim filed an FIR against all the five accused. The police said that they are soon going to arrest all five of them and take some time with the two since they are working in the Middle East.
It is so infuriating to know that a man can so easily play with a woman as and when they please. Rape is a hideous crime that deserves stricter punishments. The law and order need to come up with better laws protecting a woman and a minor girl. And as a society, we need to ensure that we teach our men to behave and create a safer environment for women.
