Over the past month, Sunak, 42, and Truss, 47, have engaged in a vigorous battle for the support of over 1,60,000 Conservative Party members across the United Kingdom. 1. Before going into politics, Truss worked as an accountant and economist. She was chosen to serve on a London city council in 2006, then in 2010 she was voted to the legislature.
2. She was the leader of the pro-EU Oxford University Liberal Democrats, a group that is currently advocating for a second Brexit referendum and was raised by left-leaning parents.

3. She received her education at Oxford University’s Merton College. Prior to entering politics, Truss worked as a commercial manager for the oil and gas corporation Shell before taking the position of economics director at Cable & Wireless.
4. She began her political career as a Lib Dem. Liz Truss discussed being filmed by Newsnight while campaigning against the monarchy in 1994 during a speech she gave on stage at the Lib Dem convention. She served as the Lib Dem Society’s president while attending Oxford. She now supports Jacob Rees-Mogg and Nadine Dorries, two staunch right-wing Conservatives.
