Actor Ketaki Chitale On Being Arrested Over One Facebook Post On Sharad Pawar: “Did Not Do Something To Deserve This”
It has been a very common occurrence in India now to see people including celebs facing severe consequences over their social media posts, particularly if it is a comment or opinion about a public figure. In a similar instance, Marathi actor Ketaki Chitale was arrested for posting a poem on her social media account that reportedly demeaned a senior politician of the Nationalist Congress Party, Sharad Pawar. The actor in a recent interview has opened up about her experience on the same and what all she went through post her arrest.

Talking about the arrest, actor Ketaki Chitale firstly claimed that she was just caught for simply copy-pasting a poem on her own Facebook profile. Further shedding light on the events that followed, Ketaki said that soon after the post she had police outside her home to arrest her. She elaborated on the experience and said that there was also a mob of 20-25 people who assaulted her and the police as well. According to her interview, given to NDTV, Ketaki also told that the mob attacked and molested her, and also threw toxic colours at her.
Reportedly, Ketaki Chitale was arrested on May 14 and was granted bail on June 24, and the charges put on her were public mischief, defamation, and promoting enmity. A total of 22 FIRs from various districts of Maharashtra have been filed against her. Speaking about the FIRs, the actor said that she has got bail only on one of them and is still fighting the 21 FIRs over just one Facebook post. Ketaki Chitale also stated that she was just using her freedom of speech and expression and was misconstrued by the public differently. Elaborating on the same, Ketaki said that she was arrested for no reason and that Sharad Pawar is not a religion.
