Katya Lipka, Russian Mountaineer Unfurls Ukrainian Flag On Mt. Everest To Express Dissent Against Russia-Ukraine War
Wars are no longer in our past. There’s one happening right now in the world. The war between Russia and Ukraine has caused unspeakable devastation to the people of both countries. The women and children, as always, have been worst affected and so many lives have been lost in the futile war that is still ongoing. The voices of dissent are present, but how many are listening and is anyone doing anything to resolve this issue, is a major question. But that doesn’t mean the voices stop altogether right? With a similar motive, Russian mountaineer Katya Lipka unfurled the Ukrainian flag on Mountain Everest to express her dissent against the war.
On June 3, Friday Katya Lipka took to her Instagram account to post a picture of her unfurling the Ukrainian flag on Mountain Everest. Lipka, who is a Russian mountaineer and blogger took this step as a protest against the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia. The war started in February 2022 and three months later, on May 24 Katya accomplished the feat. She conveyed her support for Ukraine from the highest peak of the Himalayan ranges.

Katya Lipka’s caption was in Russian. She captioned her picture by writing Mount Everest 8848m summit, and further expressed her angst over the war by saying that it has caused something inside to turn upside down. She further wrote that it took 2.5 weeks from Kathmandu to reach the 8848m summit. She also said in the caption that she achieved this feat on a “lame leg without preparation” and that it was not easy to do this again, further saying that she will not advise this to anyone. One of her lines also said, “stop killing people”.

The mountaineer also posted some other pictures and videos. Katya Lipka, in addition to expressing sympathy for Ukraine, raised the “Free Navalny” sign in another post in support of Russian anti-corruption activist Alexei Navalny, who is currently imprisoned by the Russian government.

I hope her voice from the top of the world reaches the concerned authorities. This war needs to end.
