Congress Leader Kavitha Reddy Lashes Out At Her Party For Lack Of Women Representation. Baat Mein Dum Hai!

Women’s representation has always been a bone of contention and a hot topic of debate across the world but the one big problem that we as a country have been facing is female representation in the government and politics. We see loads of men standing for elections and winning and representing people in the government but there aren’t enough women to address our issues on a platform that really matters. And this isn’t because there’s a lack of women who want to join politics but more because of a severe lack of opportunities for them and more importantly due to the lack of trust that people have in a woman’s capabilities. This also means that the important decisions with regards to our entire gender are actually made by people of the other gender who don’t completely understand the things that we deal with. In order to address this issue, Karnataka Congress general secretary Kavitha Reddy spoke up and called out her own party for not allowing women a “fair representation” while picking candidates ahead of the Legislative Council elections scheduled for June 3.

Lashing out at her party the Karnataka Congress leader shared a video pointing out that it is “disturbing” to see that women have not been given a “fair representation” in the state legislative council. This video came after Congress announced K Abdul Jabbar and M Nagaraju Yadav as candidates for the upcoming elections. Speaking to a news portal as quoted by Hindustan Times, Kavitha Reddy shared that it is “extremely unfair and disturbing” that nearly 50% of the population is being ignored while pointing out that this is the third time in a row that the party has not given any female representation. She went on to question why women are not given these opportunities while men are. She also questioned if women represent the leadership in the party. The Karnataka Congress leader further added that one cannot expect women to grow when they are not even given the correct opportunities. She concluded by stating that she is hoping that steps are taken by the party to correct the situation and undo the injustice.

The general secretary of Congress in Karnataka, Kavitha Reddy shared the video on Facebook slamming the patriarchy and questioning why men aren’t asked about winnability but women are while pointing out that men have lost elections even with all resources but these questions are only raised when it’s a woman contesting the elections and not when it’s a man. “Social Justice is Irrelevant/Incomplete without Gender Justice,” she wrote in the caption. She further pointed out that there is no representation for women in the Assembly, Council and Parliament at all and questioned if it is no entry for women.

Well, all hail Kavitha Reddy for calling out her own party for being misogynistic and denying women opportunities in the political scenario. Even in 2022, we’re severely lacking female representation in the government and it’s time we change it. And instead of sitting around and waiting for change, Kavitha chose to call out injustice and stand up for her entire gender while taking advantage of her position and platform to promote the cause and get the conversation around women’s representation going.
