JNU Students Protest Against ABVP Assault And Molestation Of Girls Over Non-Veg Food

A day of violence ensued on the grounds of Jawaharlal Nehru University which concluded with protests. The protests were conducted by the JNU Students’ Union against the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) because the latter allegedly attacked the students for eating non-veg. However, ABVP is claiming that the violence wasn’t over the food and the Left apparently disrupted their Ram Navami pooja in the hostel.

A student named Apeksha Priyadarshini claimed that 10-20 ABVP members charged the students over eating non-veg food. She further added that according to a pre-planned menu, non-veg food is served on Sundays. She also added that female students were molested during the commotion and other students were called casteist slurs too. The match reportedly began at 10:45 PM when the students demanded to meet the deputy commissioner of police.

Another JNU student named Dhananjay who is also a member of the All India Students’ Association or AISA said that he was at a cultural event on the campus when he received SOS calls for which he rushed to the Kaveri hostel. He claimed that ABVP members were beating up the mess secretary and guards. He further said that they also attacked his friends and while he was trying to protect a friend, 7-9 people jumped him and tore his kurta. He said that a student named Akhtarista Ansari was hit on the head and she was bleeding.
