Report Reveals 20% Of IVF Rounds Take Place Due To Infertile Men. This Is A Slap To Sexist Mentality Of Blaming Women!

When a couple isn’t able to get pregnant, the first person the family and society blames is a woman. Questions are raised about whether she is fertile or not. In fact, many times a lot of women are subjected to humiliation and abuse because they can’t bear children. But, in all of this, the fertility of a man is never questioned. A man is never blamed for not being able to get the woman pregnant. And if that doesn’t show how misogynistic and sexist our society is, then nothing else will. But now, the latest report collected around IVF is a hard-hitting slap to the sexist mentality. Why? Well, because the report clearly states that one-third of IVF is due to an infertile man.

Yep, the Assisted Reproductive Technology in Australia and New Zealand 2020 report from UNSW showed that male infertility was present in one in every three rounds of IVF in 2020 and most men had no clue about what affected their impotency.

The report found that around 20% of IVF rounds in 2020 were because of an infertile man and another 11.2% were because both – man and woman – were infertile as a couple. Other 7% were attributed to previous vasectomies and another 2.4% had opted for IVF after receiving treatment for cancer. And when they looked further into the case of infertile men, they found that around three-quarters of them were left undiagnosed.

Luk Rombauts, the president of the Fertility Society of Australia and New Zealand, said, “(That) reflects our lack of understanding of the reasons for poor sperm quality”. The research previously conducted on fertility focused solely on women despite men playing an equal part in conceiving.

He further added that as scientists collect more and more data on what causes infertility in men, they would understand better the impact it has. The IVF reports highlighted that more research and education were required and that genetic studies might be able to reveal risk factors for sterility.

This report is revealing as it finally talks about male infertility being a big factor as to why a couple can’t conceive. It also highlights how sexist all the research conducted till now has been as it solely focuses on the potency of a woman.
