Issey Miyake Played An Important Role In Making Steve Jobs Popular In The Fashion Sphere. Their Lesser-Known Friendship Is Surprising!
Those who follow fashion know how important a role the Japanese fashion designer Issey Miyake plays in this sphere. From his innovative and stunning designs to his arrestingly smelling perfumes, Issey Miyake was one of the most iconic fashion designers on the planet. But alas! The star designer passed away at the age of 84 after suffering from lung cancer on August 5. Tributes have been pouring in for the late designer whose designs stood out and top celebrities wore his designs. But you will be surprised to know that the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs’ classic black turtle-neck full-sleeved t-shorts were also designed by him.
In his autobiography which was also titled, Steve Jobs, he has explained how he got in touch with Issey Miyake. During their meeting, Steve asked Miyake to make him a couple of turtleneck t-shirts in black colour. The next thing he knows is that Issey Miyake made him ‘hundreds’ of the same t-shirt and sent them to him. And this is how the great Steve Jobs went on to wear the same t-shirt again and again. All of this happened around the year 1980s and Jobs came to known about his genius and also his simple fashion!

It is also reported that Steve Jobs had asked Issey Miyake to make a uniform of sorts for the employees at Apple. He wanted his team to feel a sense of togetherness with everyone wearing the same outfit to work. But unfortunately or fortunately, his team was not too enthusiastic about it and therefore, the plan was dropped. Hence, all the designed t-shirts were gone into Steve Jobs’ closet who went on to rule the tech world wearing those same clothes that Issey Miyake had designed!
