‘Bella Ciao’ Becomes The New Voice Of Protest For Iranian Women Amidst ‘No Leniency’ Warning From Country’s Judiciary Chief

If women decide to do something, then their force is unstoppable, especially if it is about injustice. The world can witness this force in the recent anti- hijab protests happening in Iran, where thousands of women have taken to the streets to protest the death of a 22-year-old girl, Mahsa Amini. This protest broke out soon after the young girl reportedly died at the hands of the morality police in Iran. No matter, how many warnings these women protestors have got from the country’s judiciary, it is just acting as fuel to their anger and voice. The Iranian women have taken different approaches to show their resentment towards the country’s policies against women in the Anti-Hijab protests, and the very recent one is through the song ‘Bella Ciao’.

From chopping off the hair to tearing the headscarves, in the past few days, the rage shown by Iranian women has seen many pictures. There also have been reports about some people dying during the protest. And in the recent updates from Iran, the Judiciary Chief, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei has stated that there will be “no leniency” in dealing with the women protestors. However, this warning has not created any change in the spirits of Iranian women. They, in fact, have taken a new way to go forward with this protest, and the voice of which is the song ‘Bella Ciao’. Apparently, it is a 19th-century folk song that was used for protests in Italy. The video that has gone viral on social media is the Persian version of the song.

What happened to Mahsa Amini cannot be justified on any grounds. Death, because of not wearing a certain kind of dress is not acceptable and the world stands with the Iranian women as they raise their voices against it.
