There is no profession a woman cannot pursue. There are numerous such stories that prove the statement, and probably more that do not come to the surface. A similar story is that of Indravati Warkade, who hails from a village in Madhya Pradesh, and is a popular mechanic. Yes, her love for motorcycles motivated Indravati Warkade to pursue this path. Mechanical jobs have always been considered to be man’s job, you too must have heard the joke that mechanical engineering hardly sees girls in a batch. However, the change is gradually happening and girls like Indravati need the support.

Indravati Warkade is a young woman who believes that being a mechanic is a job that can be done by both men and women. Indravati’s brother also has a significant role to play in the development of her passion for two-wheelers. Manoj Warkade, Indravati’s older brother, was a biker and used to take his sister on rides with him, which is how Indravati became interested in bikes. The unfortunate death of Indravati’s brother drove her to become the bread-earner in the family. Since she had a science background, her technical knowledge became the reason for her to pursue a job as a vehicle mechanic. She also took a special training programme in this field which was offered by an NGO called Professional Assistance for Development Action (PRADAN). She bagged a job with decent pay, however in an interview Indravati said that she does not see that as a future, instead wants to open a two-wheeler workshop in Narayanganj. She further added that by doing this she would encourage other women to pursue their dreams and love for bikes.
