Important Dates You Need To Keep Reminders Of This Diwali Season

If you are anything like me, you aren’t the best at keeping track of dates and upcoming events. I always need constant reminders about any religious day or festival, especially during this Diwali season. Moreso, during this lockdown when we have been home all day, the lines have blurred between personal and professional not just for me, right? Hence having some of the upcoming important dates noted will help you plan the holidays and keep track of when you aren’t allowed to eat non-vegetarian food as well, I know I could use some help in that regard! Here is a chronological list for you to refer to as you set reminders on your phones:
1. November 3, 2021
Narak Chaturdashi or Choti Diwali which falls on the day before Diwali will fall on November 3, 2021, this year. The propitious time for Abhyanga Snan on Choti Diwali falls between 5:40 AM – 6.03 AM. Lord Krishna is said to have killed a demon called Narakasura hence, Narak Chaturdashi falls on this day too. It is also believed that the people of Ayodhya celebrated the return of Lord Rama, Goddess Sita and Lakshman by lighting lamps a day before throughout the kingdom to welcome them. I can’t even imagine how beautiful that must have looked!

The much anticipated Diwali Day is here! All the cousins to gossip with, new outfits to show off, the Diwali sweets and snacks to eat! I am sure you guys are just as excited as I am. For those of us who have poojas to attend on this holy day, I have gotcha with a list of muhrats: Lakshmi Pooja falls between 6:09 PM and 8:20 PM, Pradosh Kaal will be between 5:34 PM and 8:10 PM and also, Vrishabh Kaal will happen from 6:18 PM to 8:14 PM. There are a lot of legends attached to the celebration of Diwali. Some of them align with the celebration of Choti Diwali too. It was said that Lord Rama, Goddess Sita and Lakshman returned to Ayodhya on this day and the entire kingdom lit up with diyas, a tradition followed in almost every household to date.
3. November 5, 2021
This is the auspicious day after Diwali known as Govardhan Pooja. This day has two important muhrats: Pratahkala Muhurat which falls between 6:36 AM – 8:47 AM and Sayankala Muhurat which is from 3:22 PM to 5:33 PM. This day is to celebrate the child-form of Lord Krishna, also known as Baal Krishna. It is also known as Annakut or Annakoot as many go to Govardhan Parvat to offer 56 varieties or Chappanbhog of vegetarian dishes and sweets as an offering.
4. November 6, 2021
Last but not least, we have Bhai Dooj to wrap up all the festivities. The Bhai Dooj Aparahna time begins at 1:10 PM and ends at 3:21 PM. Moreover, the Dwitiya Tithi begins at 11:14 PM on November 5 and ends at 7:44 PM on November 6. The story behind this wholesome festival is that after defeating Narakasura, Lord Krishna paid his sister Subhadra a visit. Subhadra welcomed her brother with sweets and flowers. She also applied a tikka to his forehead when he arrived, starting the tradition we follow for Bhai Dooj even today.
With all the dates in place and Diwali Season coming up, I hope you guys have your reminders on your calenders ready, for this is going to be one long celebration. I hope you guys have a fun and prosperous Diwali season!
