Geeta Basra Says Not Working All These Years Was Her Personal Choice.

Geeta Basra Says Not Working All These Years Was Her Personal Choice.

The thing about living in a woke, feminist world is that even with a progressive and open mindset, people tend to create stereotypes. For instance, in a way to promote or identify feminist women, people confuse working women as the only strong independent ones and home-makers as ones still living under the thumb of patriarchy. You see, while there was a time when women were deliberately forced to confine themselves to the kitchen, there were also a select few who chose to do that with their own will. Like former actress Geeta Basra.

A proud mother, home-maker and Harbhajan Singh’s wife, Geeta Basra is now expecting her second child with the cricketer after 4 years of their first daughter, Hinaya Heer. Opening up about how motherhood has been for her, she spoke about how she is proud of the choices she has made.

Talking about it with Pinkvilla she shared how it was because she was raised by strong women figures in her life, that she is good at managing the work-life balance. She said, “”Being a mother is definitely the most rewarding and fulfilling role I’ve ever had in my life. I’ve loved every moment being with Hinaya. It was a personal choice that I didn’t want to work… I didn’t want to go back to work so early because I was enjoying motherhood so much, and enjoying her milestones, and making sure that I’m there for every single moment of hers – her first walk, her first laugh, her first word.”

She also said, “Just motherhood shouldn’t define you,” stressing upon the fact that “It’s a personal choice.” Still not ruling out the option of acting, Geeta Basra shared, “I’ve enjoyed my work and I love what I used to do. And I think when the time comes and when the time is ready, I’ll definitely head back to work.”

After all, as long as a woman consciously decides for herself, without feeling any pressure, to stay at home and delve into motherhood, that is a personal choice that we must all uphold and respect. Being a mother is no less than a full time job either!
