Former Woman Cop Contests For Manipur Elections 2022, Says She Wants To Stop Drug Cartels Plaguing The State

It’s that time of the year when elections in every state are going on in full swing. Parties have started campaigning and doing everything they can to ensure that they get maximum votes. So, it doesn’t come as a surprise that even in Manipur the election campaigns have begun. And out of all the candidates, there is one particular candidate that has been getting a lot of attention and for the right reasons. A former woman cop who was the one to name the Chief Minister in a drug scandal is now contesting for the Manipur elections 2022 and her priority and goal is to save the state from drugs.

Thounaojam Brinda, a 2012 batch former cop, is contesting for the upcoming Manipur elections 2022 on a Janata Dal (United) ticket from the Yaskul constituency. She is going head to head with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veteran Thokchom Satyabrata Singh. If voted to power, the former cop wants to save the state from drugs.

In an interview, the former Manipur cop said that if she was voted to power then her number one priority would be “stopping the drug cartel”. Brinda started her campaign for the upcoming elections from 6 am, went door-to-door to convince people why they should vote for her, and told them why she was a better candidate. Her key to winning the elections is micro meetings.

Speaking about the drug scandals that are going on in Manipur, the former cop said, “Manipur is a border state. The drug cartel is running through Manipur, but no action is taken. The entire northeast is suffering.”

It is not the first time that we’ve heard about the drug scandals going on in the northeast and I don’t think any change will take place until the government there changes. Which is why I think having a leader that is concerned and has firsthand seen the conditions will make for a better leader. Having said that, this is politics, and most of the time what we see is not what is real, so one might never know. Only time will tell who comes to power.
