Meal Prep 101: The Busy Girl’s Secret To Healthy Meals Every Single Day!

If you are always on the run thanks to a demanding job, you probably land up ordering in or eating out more often than you’d like. But if you’re looking to get your diet back on track, then meal prepping is the solution you’ve been waiting for!

Meal prepping is basically preparing some of your meals ahead of time so that you don’t reach out for the cookie jar every now and then. It can sound a bit intimidating, since you have to plan well in advance, but it doesn’t need to be as complicated as it seems.

Here are a few tips and tricks to help you meal prep the right way.


1. Pick the meals and recipes in advance

If it’s not possible for your to fix yourself a meal every morning because… well, you’re not a morning person, or if whipping up dinner is tough because of your late working hours, prepare those meals in advance over the weekend. Try to stick to recipes that you are used to cooking and don’t mind indulging in everyday, instead of trying new things out initially.

2. Create a well balanced meal

Make sure your meals are well-balanced, incorporating proteins, grains, dairy, healthy fats, and vegetables in each one. Don’t overload your entire meal with just carbs or just proteins.


3. Decide on a day to cook

Usually a Saturday or Sunday would be the best time to prep for meals since you are off from work and can spend enough time cooking. Also, don’t forget to enjoy the process.

4. Buy your groceries in advance

If Sunday is the day you’ve set aside to indulge in a cooking marathon, then make sure that running to the grocery store for last-minute ingredients is not part of your to-do list. Get all your ingredients sorted a day prior to your meal prep day.


5. Buy frozen veggies and fruits

Frozen fruits and veggies are a life saver. You can buy them fresh and freeze them, or buy them frozen. The best part is they last a really long time in the freezer, and can be used whenever you please to make healthy fruit salads or smoothies. No guilt and the possibilities are endless!

6. Play with condiments

Basic ingredients like chicken, quinoa, and mixed vegetables can taste completely different if you play with the right condiments. Bottled/powdered condiments, dressings and marinades play a great role in helping you switch things up. Stock up on a variety of delicious sauces and dips to change up your meals, so that you don’t get bored of having the same meal day after day.


7. Learn how to multitask

Try to cook multiple things at the same time in order to avoid wasting time. Use your oven space to the fullest with multiple trays or use aluminum foil to make dividers on one oven tray in order to save time and energy in preparing meals.

8. Invest in useful kitchen gadgets

There are some gadgets that are real life savers. Use a slow cookers for mindless cooking , a hand blender for purees or a multi-shredder for all the shredding and chopping. Check out these cool kitchen gadgets, which will definitely help you amp up your cooking game.


9. Invest in the right containers

Last but not the least, invest in the right containers. It must easy to stack, reuse, freeze, heat up… you get the drift. Buy them in bulk, so you have enough of them to store meals for a whole week. Transparent containers work best since you can easily pick out the meal you want to eat when you’re hungry.
