5 Female Authors With Unique Writing Styles That Will Wheel You In

More often than not, I’m asked, ‘do you not get bored reading books?’ and my answer is a simple, plain ‘no’. And the reason behind me not getting bored is simple – there are so many writers out there and they have so much to say! In fact, for me, it is not just about various plots and stories, but also about how they are told. As a writer myself, I can say with utmost certainty that every writer has a unique style of writing, world/character building, different point of view, etc. For instance, just look at the way George R. R. Martin created a fictional world and characters in the A Song of Ice and Fire series and the way J. K. Rowling created the magical world that hooks the reader in the Harry Potter series. The genre of both these series is fantasy but the way they are written and their narrative are so distinctive from each other that both of them evoke a whole different feeling in the reader. To help you understand this better, I have come up with a list of female authors that are so profound in writing their tales but have a very unique style of writing.
These five female authors wheel you in and get you hooked not just with their stories and characters but the way they narrate and describe them. From Sally Rooney to Colleen Hoover, here are some of my favourite female authors that have inspired my writing and helped me improve my style. They are the ones that have encouraged me to stay true to my narrative.

Here are five female authors that have a distinctively unique style of writing:
1. Colleen Hoover

Colleen Hoover is an author that almost every other millennial has heard of, if not obsessed over her books. When it comes to her writing style, Hoover has a very unique way of writing romance, wherein she slowly, layer by layer shows the nature of the character. This very style consumes the reader so much that they want to know every detail of the characters. And the best part about her writing is, that not only every novel of hers is different but they all have a dark twist that you most definitely didn’t see coming. To conclude, her books are a rollercoaster of emotions and mystery.

2. Jhumpa Lahiri
Jhumpa Lahiri is one of those female authors who just doesn’t write for the readers but also for herself – the thing I love the most about her. She just doesn’t create a world but immerses herself in it and you can see that in the way she uses the language in which she writes. Her books will make you see how deeply she understands language and makes you fall in love with it. The best part, for me, is that any and every book of hers has a deep meaning attached to it, that will make you question, think, and feel things that you might have never questioned, thought, or felt before. And I, for one, look forward to it.

3. Michelle Zauner
Uff, what do I even say about Michelle Zauner who with her debut memoir blew my mind away? She is one of those female authors who understands relationships, grief, and identity like no one else. Her understanding of these three things that most people battle with on daily basis can be seen in the way she beautifully presents these to the readers in her book – also, the thing that makes her story so much more relatable. Pick up her book when all you are looking for is solace.

One of my all-time favourites has to be Sally Rooney. Each of her books has a conversational narrative and writing style so uniquely hers that it will make you want to read the entire book in just one sitting. She is one of those female authors who know how to build characters really really well. Her characters reflect the same struggles that most millennials go through – which makes them even more relatable for young readers. Whether it is finding your place in the world, balancing your personal and professional life, or dealing with your sexuality, the author knows how to seamlessly weaves these discussions into her storylines.

5. Emily Henry

Compared to other female authors on the list, Emily Henry is still making her way into every reader’s reading list. However, she has entered mine and I couldn’t have been more ecstatic about it. The contemporary fiction author‘s romance books are perfect travel partners as they have are feel-good, deep stories that you can’t help but visualise. The one thing that sets her books apart from the other romcoms are the characters she builds – her characters are not just hopelessly romantics who are on the lookout for love, but rather have more depth and are looking for something more from their life and that is when they happen to fall in love. In other words, her characters are on a journey to become better than their already existing versions, and it is the love that helps them in their journey.
