From Backyard Setup To Bridal Outfit, Farhan Akhtar And Shibani Dandekar’s Whimsical Wedding Was Refreshing And Lovely

Weddings are magical and there’s no doubt about it. The union of two beings, cultures, families and traditions, a bride and groom’s wedding day is their life’s most beautiful moment. And talking about Bollywood’s most talked-about couples and their even more-talked about shadis, there’s the magic that transforms on our screens. I mean, look at Virat Anushka’s pastel wedding that happened many many moons back but still remains a recent highlight when Anushka’s beautiful video of walking the aisle on ‘din shagna da,’ plays on our screens. That’s the magic of weddings. While we’ve been loving all the latest celebrity weddings, one couple that really surprised us was Farhan Akhtar and Shibani Dandekar. Saying ‘I do’ in the most romantic set-up ever, the two not just set couple but wedding goals too. From floral backdrops, garden venue to their stunning bride and groom ensembles, everything was tailor-made to look perfect.

Talking about the location, the backyard wedding really surprised us. I mean not that the lush green gardens don’t look great as wedding venues, it’s just how pretty and underrated they are to be chosen as one. Serving as a similar aesthetic to actress Dia Mirza’s garden mandap, filled with white flowers, and golden bells, Farhan and Shibani’s wedding destination was closer to home and heart. Designed by Janki Desai who runs her wedding design company ALTAIR, the dreamy set-up featured a natural backdrop, adorned with an array of red and pink flowers and a gold chandelier taking the centre stage. The intimate wedding affair that took place at Javed Akhtar’s farmhouse in Khandala, added more spark to the magic, and was managed by popular wedding planners– Shaadi squad.

Twinning with the backdrop was bride Shibani who walked the aisle with her dad wearing a stunning beige and romantic red. Custom-made by the label Jade and designed by Monica Shah, Karishma Swali and celebrity stylist Shaleena Nathani, the two-piece ensemble was handcrafted with special French Chantilly lace, hand-embroidered on the label’s signature vermillion red palette. The set featured a corset, long fish-cut skirt and sheer red veil replete with tonal thread embroidery and sequins, followed by a long train. What we loved about Shibani’s D-day look was the contemporary, western spin added to Indian bridal wear’s signature red. The union between the aesthetics of a white wedding and a hint of traditional India, was refreshing and a much-needed break from the usual larger than life lehengas.

Complimenting his lady love in red, Farhan opted for a black tuxedo by designer Govinda Mehta. Ditching the sherwani, Farhan topped off his look with a bow-tie and pocket square instead of the usual groom-special embroidered shawls and saafa.

Ever since, the duo dropped official images from their wedding, everything from the guest list to the stage performances seemed like a joy ride for the attendees. The stunning visuals suggested a live band by celebrated musical trio Shankar Ehsaan Loy, a fun stage dance floor by the tree, guests dressed in traditional Indian wear with flowers gracing every hand and eyes shedding happy tears witnessing the couple’s dreamy day.

The duo also distributed sweets to the media post their civil marriage on February 21, followed by an after-party at filmmaker/producer Zoya Akhtar’s residence in Mumbai.
