Well, speaking of female athletes, Elena Rybakina won the women’s singles final tennis match against Ons Jabeur and earned Kazakhstan’s first Grand Slam singles title on Saturday. Who Is Elena Rybakina?

On July 9, Elena Rybakina beat Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the Wimbledon final and made history as she became the first tennis player from Kazakhstan to win a Grand Slam singles title. The 23-year-old is the youngest player to lift the Venus Rosewater Dish at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships.

But did you know that she is not from Kazakhstan? She was born in Moscow – the capital of Russia and is representing Kazakhstan since 2018 as the country offered to fund her tennis career and their decision was absolutely correct. Her participation in the tournament became a controversial topic as The All England Club barred all players who represent Russia or Belarus from entering the Wimbledon championship because of the war between Russia and Ukraine.
