Droupadi Murmu Swears-In As 15th President Of India On July 25. Here’s Why The Date Holds Importance

Today is a big day for India. Why? Well, because it is the day when Droupadi Murmu took the oath as the 15th President of India. But before we get into the details of that, did you know that she will be the tenth successive president since 1977 to take the oath on the same day – July 25? Yep, even though there is no written rule that all the presidents have to take the oath on July 25, from 1977 till now, all of them have taken the presidential oath on the same day. The exceptions are India’s first president, Rajendra Prasad, and then his successors Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, Zakir Hussain, and Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed. And then the sixth president of India, Neelam Sanjiva Reddy took oath on July 25, 1977, and since then successive presidents including Giani Zail Singh, R Venkataraman, Shankar Dayal Sharma, K R Narayanan, A P J Abdul Kalam, Pratibha Patil, Pranab Mukherjee, and Ram Nath Kovind have all taken the oath on the same day. Keeping the tradition alive, even Droupadi Murmu has taken the oath on the same day.

On July 24, Ram Nath Kovind gave his final address to the nation wherein he recalled his ancestral village and sought blessings from his school teacher. And today, on July 25, Droupadi Mrumu will succeed him to become the 15th President of India.
