Doctor Held For Planting Spy Cameras In A Woman’s Quarters

If there is one thing that I’m extremely particular about, it has to be my privacy. I, like everyone else, enjoy my privacy and don’t like anyone messing around with it. And just like how a man’s privacy is respected and acknowledged, I’d want that too. But that is not always the case. I mean, it is a basic human right. We tend to take women’s privacy too lightly. There have been innumerable instances where educated, literal men – like doctors, policemen, politicians, etc. – have violated a woman’s right to privacy, and by installing cameras and such nonsense.

Recently, a 42-year-old doctor in Maharashtra was arrested for installing spy cameras in the bedroom and bathroom of a trainee doctor’s residential quarters. The accused doctor is a neurologist and a lecturer at a city-based medical college.

It was last week when the trainee woman doctor who was residing in the quarters became aware of the spy cameras. She had tried to switch on a bulb in her bathroom, but when it did not work she called the electrician to check the bulb. Upon checking the bulb, the electrician spotted the spy camera that was installed inside the bulb. After checking her entire residential quarters, the trainee doctor found one more spy camera installed in her bedroom.

After which the trainee doctor lodged a complaint with the police – who started investigating the matter. Jagannath Kalaskar, a senior police inspector of Bharti Vidyapeeth police station, spoke regarding the case and that “During the investigation, we zeroed in on the neurologist, an MD, who was detained on Monday evening. He has been remanded to police custody for two days.”

Being a woman doctor in a profession that is dominated by men is not easy. From trying to break the glass ceiling to proving your worth – is a constant fight that a woman doctor fights. And in the midst of all this, when she comes back to that one place where she can drop her guard and be herself – facing an invasion of privacy is definitely not what she’s expecting. Women need their privacy as much as any other man. And that fact needs to not only be acknowledged but also respected.
