Delhi Government To Bear 50% Cost To Train Women As Commercial Drivers. This Is Such An Empowering Move

There is no denying that the Indian government along with the state governments are taking steps to empower women. And this is true for not just education but also for employment opportunities. I mean, just look at the great step the Delhi government has taken for women. What am I talking about? Well, the Delhi government recently announced that it will bear 50% cost to train women as commercial drivers. And this is being done to provide more employment opportunities to women. This is the best news I have heard in a while!

On Monday, July 18, the Delhi government released an official statement wherein they announced that to provide women with more employment opportunities, it will bear 50% cost to train them as commercial drivers.

The scheme initiated by the Delhi government will invite cab aggregators and fleet owners to sponsor the other 50% training cost for the women drivers who are looking for employment in their companies.

As per the statement, the Delhi government will be providing women who are willing to take driving training and become professional commercial drivers in the future. The 50% cost of training a single woman is 4,800 and this amount will be borne by the government.

The reports suggest that the women who want to become commercial drivers will get their training at government centres in Burari, Lona, and Sarai Kale Khan. The statement by the Delhi government read, “The government will work with fleet owners and aggregators to set up an optimal mechanism so that women trained through the initiative receive guaranteed jobs in these companies after completion of the training.”

The transport department will also soon issue an advertisement seeking Expression of Interest (EoI) from fleet owners and aggregators for the new scheme by the Delhi government. They want to gauge the number of women who can be trained under the initiative.

It was back in 2020 when the Delhi government adopted the Electric Vehicle Policy and is currently on its way to adopting the Delhi Motor Vehicle Aggregator Scheme that will mandate phase-wise adoption and also increase the share of electric vehicles within the fleet of cab aggregators.
