DCW Sends Notice Regarding Virat Kohli’s 9-Month-Old Daughter Getting Rape Threats

Cricket is one of India’s unofficial yet somehow official religions. I mean, the excitement of when the Indian cricket team wins a match is so pure. But when the same team loses a match—especially opposite Pakistan—the reaction is inhumane and brutal. And this time was no different. After India lost the match against Pakistan, the Indian cricket team faced a lot of backlash from people in the country. If the backlash is thrown at the cricketers, it’s understandable (definitely not justified) but when that extends to their family, there is a line that is getting crossed. I mean, we all remember when actor Anushka Sharma faced a lot of trolling and backlash from the people every time Virat Kohli played badly. And now it is their daughter, Vamika who is just nine months old and has people sending rape threats about her! This is sickening beyond belief.

Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma’s nine-month-old daughter, Vamika, has been getting rape threats online after India lost the match against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup in Dubai. In fact, the Delhi Commission for Women has issued a notice to the Delhi police regarding these rape threats.

The DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal took to Twitter to talk about the rape threats received by the Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli and Bollywood actor Anusha Sharma’s daughter Vamika. She tweeted, “The way the nine-month-old was threatened on Twitter is “very shameful”.” She further has urged the Delhi police to share information regarding the investigation of the case. Ms. Maliwal also said, “The team has made us proud thousands of times, why this silliness in defeat.”

One thing is certain that the DCW is not taking the rape threats made to Virat Kohli and Anuska Sharma’s daughter lightly. They’ve not only sought out information regarding the investigation of the case but also asked for a copy of the FIR, details of the accused who have been identified and those who have been arrested, and a detailed “action taken report” in the case. In fact, the notice that they sent to the Delhi police states, “If no accused has been arrested, please provide the details of steps taken by Delhi Police to arrest the accused.” As per reports, the police are required to provide the information by November 8, 2021.

It really sickens and disgusts me to know that people have fallen so low that they are now targeting a nine-month-old kid. Winning and losing is a part of the game that they play. Blaming Virat Kohli or anyone from his family or anyone else from the Indian cricket team and their family is not justified. Honestly, it is not even acceptable. I, for one, am happy that the Delhi police will look into this matter and arrest those thinking that they can get away with sending rape threats to anyone online.
