Twitter Demands Justice For Mandeep Kaur, The US Sikh Woman Who Died By Suicide After Facing Domestic Abuse
The video of a Sikh woman, Mandeep Kaur, has gone viral on social media wherein she is heard saying that her husband abused her for several years. Mandeep died by suicide and cited the abuse she received from her as the reason why she took her own life. That video of Mandeep is being widely circulated on social media and people are outraged with how much she had to suffer at the hands of her abusive husband.
As per reports, Mandeep Kaur lived in New York, United States of America, and recorded that video wherein she shared her plight about being abused by her husband. In the video, she can also be heard saying that she tolerated the abuse in the hope that he would change one day. She said in the video that her husband beat her every day for giving birth to a daughter.
There has been a massive uproar on Twitter and people are talking about how domestic abuse against women goes unnoticed in most neighbourhoods. One of the Twitter users wrote, “There are collosal problems in our family & social structure which we conveniently ignore or deny to accept. #DomesticViolence against women is one such serious problem. Suicide by Mandeep Kaur a NRI Punjabi woman is a wake up call to accept the problem and fix it accordingly”, while another wrote, “Pained to watch the video of #MandeepKaur who took her life due to persistent atrocities by her husband. It is more painful as it happened in sikh family a religion where women are treated equally & with respect . Why didn’t she report to US police #justiceformandeepkaur.”
