CWG 2022: Boxer Nikhat Zareen Secures A Medal For India As She Advances To Semifinals

For those who are living under a rock, let me tell you that the Commonwealth Games 2022 has begun and this time India is killing it. As of now, the country, after bagging a total of 16 medals – five gold, six silver, and five bronze medals, is currently enjoying its spot in the seventh position. But if you think this is it, think again. The Indian contingent is expecting to win more medals from athletes like boxer Nikhat Zareen and judoka Tulika Maan. While judoka Tulika Maan, already won a silver medal in the women’s 78kg category, the boxer recently assured a medal for the country as she advanced to the semifinals in the women’s light fly category.

Boxer Nikhat Zareen showed the power of her punch to secure a spot in the semifinals (50kg) in the women’s light fly category at the Commonwealth Games 2022. Her advancement to the semifinals assures yet another medal for India.

Nikhat Zareen, who earlier this year won the gold medal at the Women’s World Boxing Championship, defeated the boxer from Wales, Helen Jones, in the quarterfinals with a 5:0 win in the women’s light fly category at the Commonwealth Games.

While this was the game on one end, on the other we had Indian judoka Tulika Maan who secured a silver medal in the women’s 78kg category at the Games on Wednesday. Despite giving her all, the athlete was defeated by Sarah Adlington from Scotland in the finals.

On Wednesday, judoka Tulika Maan, who had won two fights earlier in the day to make it to the finals in the women’s 78kg category, had the upper hand for the most part. But it was one decisive move from Scotland’s Sarah Adlington, an Ippon, that changed the game and defeated the Indian athlete.

The Commonwealth Games 2022 is definitely not over and that means our athletes still have the time to show the world what they’ve got.
