CM Mamata Banerjee Launches Scathing Attacks At BJP Over Mohammed Zubair, Teesta Setalvad Arrests
Recently, Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair and social activist Teesta Setalvad were arrested in connection with hurting religious sentiments and in connection with the 2002 Gujarat riots case respectively. West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, severely criticised the central BJP government over these arrests and did not mince her words while launching scathing attacks on them.
Mamata Banerjee Slams BJP Over Recent Arrests
Mamata Banerjee said that BJP’s social media is full of fake videos and they are cheating people by spreading misinformation. She went on to say that when their own leaders ‘spread dirty misinformation’ and go about insulting others, they are not arrested. She added that even though these leaders kill other people, they are not touched.
Furthermore, Banerjee said that others are arrested for speaking the truth. She went on to ask the reason behind why Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair was arrested. She also asked why Teesta Setalvad was arrested. Mamata didi lastly said that the world is condemning these arrests.
On Monday, Delhi Police special cell arrested Mohammed Zubair for allegedly hurting religious sentiments and also inciting riots. The Delhi court had denied him bail and he was sent on a one-day police remand as well. He was charged under sections 153 and 295A (deliberately intending to hurt religious feelings). The police have said that he did not answer questions up to the mark and also did not surrender ‘technical equipment’. They have also said that he is not operating with the authorities.

On the other hand, Teesta Setalvad was arrested along with retired IPS officer RB Sreekumar in connection to the 2002 Gujarat riots case because allegedly, they fabricated the evidence. They are still currently in the custody of Gujarat police till July 2, 2022.
