Bulli Bai App Case: 18-Yr-Old 12th Pass-Out Girl From Uttarakhand Arrested By Mumbai Police
The new year has begun, but the dream of creating a safe space for women in India still seems a bit too foggy. While we’re struggling to get rid of the fog, there is an app that degrades, shames, and defames Muslim women: the Bulli Bai app. The app that appears to be similar to the Sulli Deals app, is where a number of manipulated photos of Muslim women are posted without their consent and auctioned off. Disgusting! In fact, the term ‘Bulli’, as well as ‘Sulli’, are derogatory terms that are used to disrespect Muslim women. Needless to say, there is an ongoing investigation taking place where Mumbai police have already arrested a 21-year-old man from Bengaluru. But it seems as though the main mastermind behind the app is an 18-year-old girl from Uttarakhand. This is disturbing!
Shweta Singh, an 18-year-old girl from Rudrapur town, Uttarakhand is the second to be arrested by Mumbai police on Sunday in the Bulli Bai app case. The first person arrested was a 21-year-old man Vishal Kumar Jha, a civil engineer student from Bengaluru.

The 18-year-old is a 12th pass-out that was produced before the local judge in Udham Singh Nagar district that granted transit remand to take her to Mumbai. As of now, the police team and the girl are still in Uttarakhand as they are waiting for female police officers to arrive from Mumbai to escort her.
As per reports, the senior police officers of Mumbai have denied giving any information about her role in the Bulli Bai app case. Ashok Kumar, the Uttarakhand police chief, did confirm that the girl was arrested but also stated that the state police wasn’t the one that questioned her.

Ashok Kumar said regarding the girl that was arrested in the Bulli Bai case, “Uttarakhand police didn’t question the accused as the probe is conducted by the Mumbai police only which is in the know of the case details… The Uttarakhand police only provided them (Mumbai police) assistance by sending one of our lady constables to arrest the accused as their team was not accompanied by one of their own.”
According to the news going around the two arrested in the Bulli Bai app case know each other and the girl, Shweta Singh is the mastermind behind it all. Having said that, we have hardly any more information from the police. So, I guess, we’ll just have to see how the case unfolds.
