Bride Calls Off Wedding After Sixth Phera Because She Didn’t Like The Groom. Bollywood, Take Inspiration

When it comes to marriage, many people don’t have the courage to back out, even if it’s the right thing to do. There’s a lot of familial and societal pressure. All the bookings are made, money is paid out, and if you say no, all hell will break loose. Many people just decide to run away in such a situation. You know, confrontation is never easy. Moreover, nobody can force you to get married. But “bhaag jaana” is a concept I don’t personally prefer. I mean, yes, if your family is strict enough to just let you burn in a marriage you didn’t want, then running away is your only option. But otherwise, saying no and holding your ground can work, like it did for this bride!

They say it’s too late to change your mind if the wedding invites are sent out and all that. But guess what, this procrastinating bride called off her wedding after the sixth phera. Apparently, the bride said she didn’t like the groom, according to an IANS report.

When she stopped the wedding, not just the groom’s side but even the bride’s side tried to convince her to go ahead with it. She refused. The panchayat was called in, and the bride still refused to go ahead. Finally, the groom and his family had to back out.

However, the groom’s family wanted answers and they asked the bride why she changed her mind. She replied saying she doesn’t like him. Of course, the groom’s father pointed out that if she didn’t like him she shouldn’t have participated in the wedding rituals at all.

We don’t know what the situation was. It’s easy to say the bride is the villain here. But we don’t know what ticked her off—did she find out something about the groom that she preferred not to speak about in public? Had she said yes under pressure? We don’t know what made her feel that way towards him. And honestly, it is a small loss compared to the loss they’d feel all their life if they had gone ahead with the marriage.

I don’t know her reasons; I don’t know whether the bride was fickle-minded or if she had an epiphany. But I hope when a woman really wants to say no to marriage, she finds the courage to do so, even if everyone feels it’s too late. In fact, even if a woman is married, I hope she has the courage to walk away if it is abusive or toxic.
