BJP’s Chitra Wagh Criticises Maha Govt For Including Models Of Vagina And Penis In Family Planning Counselling Kits. Why Are We So Shy About It?
There have been many instances in our Indian politics when the opposition party has called out the ruling party for nonsensical or ridiculous things. And then there are times when the opposition party criticises the government for doing something that can be seen as progressive. Yep, I’m hinting at the time when BJP’s Chitra Wagh criticised the Maharashtra government for including models of female and male reproductive organs in the family planning counselling kits that are provided to accredited social health activist (ASHA) workers.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state vice president, Chitra Kishor Wagh, recently raised questions for the Maharashtra government for including rubber models of female and male reproductive organs in their family planning counselling kits. Chitra Wagh further criticised the government saying that it has lost its mind.

In fact, not only BJP’s state leader Chitra Wagh but also one of the Asha workers also expressed her discomfort with regards to the Maharashtra government’s decision to include the rubber models of reproductive organs in the family planning counselling kits. She even went on to say that many workers (including her) are awkward, embarrassed to carry and display the male and female reproductive models during their awareness campaign.
As per the reports, the Asha worker also spoke about how the family planning counselling campaign is a great initiative by the Maharashtra government. Having said that, they along with BJP’s Chitra Wagh want the rubber models of reproductive organs to be removed from the kits.

What I don’t understand regarding the criticism by BJP’s Chitra Wagh and the social health activists is why are we so uncomfortable speaking about the male and female reproductive organs – penises and vaginas? I mean, they are just organs like every other organ. And if that is the case then why use euphemisms, food, flowers, or animal names to refer to vaginas and penises? In fact, what is more miffing to me, is the very fact that people who are put in charge of spreading awareness about sexual health are the ones shying from speaking about it – like how?
