Bizarre! Woman Who Was Locked Up By Lover With No Access To A Bathroom Chooses To Continue Living With Him

People often go to extreme lengths for what they call love and sometimes, it is glorified like it is the highest and purest form of it. Of course, Kabir Singh and Tere Naam are such movies that glorify toxic attachment, influencing many people to follow the same path. However, a recent case has left me baffled. A woman was held captive by her lover for 10 years in a single room – and both of them stated they were happy with their life together. How far would you go for being with the one you love? Is she saying that out of will or out of pressure? It’s very hard to believe she is okay with being held hostage in a room for that long or has it affected her psychologically?

When the matter came to light, Kerala Women’s Commission chairperson MC Josephine described the couple’s arrangement unbelievable. Rahman and Sajitha, said they have no issues and would like to continue living together, peacefully.

“A woman was made captive for the last 10 years. It cannot be justified at any cost, no matter the facilities offered. But they are claiming that they are happy,” Ms Josephine told reporters after meeting the couple, as quoted by PTI.

The woman stayed put in the single room which had no bathroom attached. At night, she would climb out the window to use the washroom. She didn’t have access to basic human necessities like carrying out your biological functions. It is pathetic and gross. And yet, she chose to live with him.

Josephine pointed out that when she went missing 10 years ago, the police didn’t put enough effort in tracing her down. It was only recently when the man went missing from his home that they could trace him down at another rented apartment, where they found the woman with him. When they were produced before the court, she chose to continue living with him.

How can someone volunteer for a life like this? Maybe she has Stockholm Syndrome or maybe the couple needs psychological counselling. In no situation, this arrangement is healthy. They should have been asked to go through compulsory counselling instead of being let go like that. The woman who is being held captive apparently fears the wrath of her family and society. But this is no way to go about things.
