Michelle And Barack Obama Slam SC Draft Overturning Roe V. Wade Decision, Say Its ‘Consequences Will Be A Blow To Women And Free Society’
There is a raging debate in the US going on currently about the US Supreme Court deciding to overturn the revolutionary Roe VS Wade decision. As per this decision, a pregnant woman has the liberty to choose to have an abortion without the government’s intervention. But now, it appears that the US Court is going to roll back this law as per a draft that has been leaked. This means that abortions will become illegal in the United States. Former US president Barak Obama and his wife Michelle Obama have released a joint statement wherein they have explained the repercussions of the Roe V. Wade decision being overturned.
Michelle And Barack Obama’s Joint Statement
In their statement, the Obamas wrote that if this rule was overturned, ‘it would not only reverse 50 years of precedent, it will relegate the most intensely personal decision someone can make to the whims of politicians and ideologues’. They also went on to write that if this rule was overturned, every American will face consequences. They further wrote, “And this decision is unlikely to significantly reduce abortions which have been steadily going on over the past several decades thanks, in large part to better access to contraception and education.”

Barak and Michele Obama also pointed out that those with the means and the money will still get abortions done by travelling to states where it is legal. And those who do not have the means will ‘face the same circumstances most women did before Roe’. They also mentioned that illegal abortions pose grave risks to the health of women, ‘their future ability to have children and sometimes even their lives’. They captioned the post by writing, “Here’s my statement with Michelle on the draft Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.”
