Aurangabad Youth Conspires With Mother And Beheads Pregnant Older Sister, Takes Selfies With Body

“WTF is wrong with people?” this is something I question constantly and I am sure that if you read the news as often I do, you think about this too. Every day there is some or the other news of some atrocity happening in the most gruesome way possible and all we can do is read about it and be shocked. This was essentially my reaction when I read this news about a young boy and his mother beheading his sister as a form of honour killing and then clicking selfies with it. Yes, you read that right.

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, Honour killing is, “the traditional practice in some countries of killing a family member who is believed to have brought shame on the family.” Aurangabad police have arrested an 18-year-old boy and his 40-year-old mother for killing his older sister by hacking her head off and then taking selfies with it and sending it to relatives. But wait, there’s more! According to reports, the murder happened on Sunday in Goygaon village in Vaijapur tehsil of Aurangabad. Hours after the horrendous crime the 18-year-old boy, Sanket S. Mote and his 40-year-old mother, Shobha S. Mote, surrendered to the police and confessed their crime. 

The Goygaon Police Patil (PP) Suryakant R. Mote is a part of the investigative team. He said that preliminary investigations show that this was allegedly a case of honour killing as both, mother and son were furious over the elopement of the 19-year-old daughter, Kirti’s and her boyfriend Ajay S. The couple had eloped on June 21. The Aurangabad couple were living in the same village as Kirti’s family after getting married at Alandi, Pune. Kirti was allegedly pregnant as well.

When they found out about the couple moving back, the Aurangabad mother-son duo went to her place under the guise of a reunion where she went to the kitchen to make tea and snacks for them. The mother-son duo took advantage of the situation and followed her to the kitchen. Shobha grabbed the daughter’s legs while Sanket beheaded her with a sickle.

I cannot even begin to describe how sick this makes me feel. I can’t imagine the mentality to believe that hollow pride is more important than one’s life and individuality. As a society, we have been slowly regressing and the results are very clear. Moreover, the perpetrators are getting younger by the day which is concerning as well.
