For The Fifth Consecutive Year, Assam Ranks Highest In The State List For Crimes Against Women.

The National Crime Records Bureau’s (NCRB) recent survey data of crimes against women last year across the country has shed a daunting picture of the nation. It will make every woman question whether there are any noteworthy steps being taken to curtail this or if these reports are just stacked up in the pile of other old documents. As per the NCRB data, Delhi topped the list of cities with respect to crimes against women and was followed by Mumbai and Bengaluru. Now, the list of states in this regard has been released and it is equally distressing. As per the list, Assam has witnessed a higher rise in the percentage of crimes against women in comparison to other states.

The NCRB data reveals that Assam saw a 168.3% rise in the number of crimes happening to women. The shocking part about this number was that it is much higher than that of the national average which is 64.5%. Assam has been ranked the highest in the 5th year now, and it is a shameful position to maintain. The total number of crimes that were reported in the state last year was 29,046. The states that follow Assam in the list are Odisha(137.8), Telangana (111.2%), and Rajasthan (105.4). The crimes that were majorly reported were domestic violence and torture by the husband, kidnapping, rape, and assaults to outrage the woman’s modesty. Nagaland(5.1%), Manipur (19.1%), and Gujarat (22.1%)  were found at the bottom of the list.

In the list of Union Territories, Delhi topped the list with a 147.6% rise in the number of crimes against women. Jammu And Kashmir and Chandigarh are UTs next in line, as per news reports.
