I’m approaching my mid-twenties and the one question that most of my extended family asks is when I’m getting married. And talking about this with my girlfriends I know that I’m not the only one getting pestered with this question. Hearing this question on repeat like a broken tape recorder, I often wonder what is the right age for an Indian girl to get married? Well, I guess I don’t have to go ahead and voice this question anymore as someone on Reddit already did.

Reading some of these answers made me realise that we as a society have progressed quite a lot – especially when it comes to girls and getting them married. And these responses are proof of just that! Having said that, I’m not going to sit here and say that all is well, of course, more work needs to be done on how we treat and see the girls/women in our society, but that will happen over time. As of now, the fact that Indians recognize that this marriage is a girl’s decision is enough – baby steps, you see. And I like to believe that we will ensure that we as a society recognise what women/girls deserve; it will happen eventually.
