Actress Anna Ben Says ‘It’s Tiring To Be A Woman’ After Being Groped In A Mall. It’s All Too Relatable
Let me ask you something. How would you react if a strange man tried to grope you in public? Most of us would like to believe that we would be proactive. Maybe slap him or scream for help. But the truth is most of us in that situation will freeze like a deer caught in the headlights. I know it’s not what most women want to hear right now but it’s a fact and we’ve all been there. Which is why, when Malayalam actress Anna Ben spoke about her encounter with sexual harassment, we related so much.
You see, Anna Ben and her family were out shopping in Kochi’s Lulu mall on Thursday. That’s when two men followed them and even groped her. She took to her Instagram handle to describe what went down and how she reacted. Her post resonated with us so much.
Calling out those two men, the actress wrote, “Two men walked past me in a generously spaced aisle in Lulu hypermarket which barely had people crowding and one of them not so accidentally grazed his hands on my back while walking past me. Because it caught me off guard I couldn’t react immediately. I wanted to give him the benefit of a doubt but you know when something is just not right, you feel it.” Further adding, “Though I made sure that they knew that I understood what had happened, I was still so angry because I couldn’t say anything.”

Anna Ben continued talking about how those men then began following them and even tried making inane conversation with her and her sister. She said they wanted to know the names of the movies she had been a part of. Ugh, creepy.
The men went away when they saw her mother. Anna goes on to say that in that moment, she couldn’t think of a single thing to say or do. She went blank and that angered her. She said, “As I type this I can think of a thousand things I could have told them and a hundred things I could have done. But I didn’t. I just couldn’t. I just wanted to let this out here so I could feel a little relief. To feel that I have done something about it knowing fully that they walked away without guilt or trouble. Knowing that they might do it again, it angers me.”
As I said earlier, this happens more often than we would like to admit. And yes, it’s extremely infuriating but the only we to stop this is if women’s safety is increased drastically.

Anna Ben talks about how it’s tiring to be a woman. We agree. She says women have to be on guard all the time. Cover their chest, legs and even protect themselves from lecherous men. Anna blames men for taking away the “joys of womanhood”.
She said, “Being a woman has been very tiring, to be on guard every minute as you step out of your house. To watch my clothes when I bend and turn. To guard my chest with my arms in a crowd… And on the days I’m home, I worry about my mother, my sister, my friends who have to do the same things. It is all because of these sick men. You take away our safety. You take away our comfort and the joy of our womanhood. I despise you.”
She further adds a message to all the woman reading this post. She says, “I hope you have the courage to give a tight slap on the face of such men.”
