Sushmita Sen Turns Showstopper For Traditional Manipuri Designer Robert Naorem At Sangai Festival

When it comes to fashion, India has a large variety to offer. With all the diversity we have in our country, there are so many traditional outfits to pick from and each one is more beautiful than the other. And it looks like celebs also love exploring traditional fabrics and outfits too. Evidence in question is Sushmita Sen. The actress recently attended the annual cultural festival organised by Manipur Tourism Department called Sangai Festival. And not Sushmita Sen has shared a post where she is wearing the traditional Manipuri headgear along with a traditional shawl. But there’s more, the actress turned muse for a traditional Manipuri designer and donned their traditional attire to walk the ramp at the closing ceremony of the show.

In her latest Instagram post, Sushmita Sen shared videos from the closing ceremony of Sangai Festival where she turned showstopper for a designer and donned the traditional Manipuri attire of Phanek and Rani Phi designed by Manipuri designer Robert Naorem. She called it a “walk of celebration” of the rich art and culture of Manipuri.

Taking to Instagram, Sushmita Sen shared a picture of herself draped in a traditional handwoven woollen shawl from Manipur along with a beautiful traditional headgear called Kajenglei. In the caption, the actress wrote shared the details of what she was wearing along with the Manipuri word “Thagatchari” which is used to express gratitude. Check out this adorable post.

For the unversed, the Kajenglei is a traditional Manipuri headgear which was worn by the goddesses and women of the royal family. Also known as Leitreng, this headgear is also worn by dancers and brides. It features a red cloth around the head with about 80 to 100 brass strip tassels.

The Sangai Festival is an annual cultural festival held in Manipur, organised by the Tourism Department of the state. It is aimed at promoting the state as a tourism destination. The festival also aims to showcase the art and culture of the state along with handloom, handicrafts, fine arts, cuisine, music and much more. The Sangai Festival is celebrated in many parts of Imphal and is attended by people across the globe who come to the festival to see the local art and craft.
