Besides hoarding a tall stack of these India-loved fabrics and traditional embroideries, stars also enjoy investing in old-school jewellery and precious gemstones to dress up for weddings and important events. And amidst the sea of clothing trends, the love for jewellery is ever-lasting. From sparkling rubies to uncut diamonds and classy emeralds, actresses from the Hindi film industry have welcomed every gemstone to weave a spectacular look. And in case they wed in a royal andaaz, regal princess neckpieces are sure to captivate your attention. Much like the newlywed, bride–Kiara Advani, who tied the knot with Sidharth Malhotra in a custom-made Manish Malhotra lehenga. Apart from her taste in an empress rose, Swarovski-encrusted embroidery, matched with fine zardozi, Advani decorated her diamond-led unique bridal ensemble with emeralds. She trusted Manish Malhotra and picked a rani haar from the designer’s newly inaugurated collection of Bespoke Diamond jewellery.

Her choice for the special moment was a neckpiece, and a massive ear stud, curated using hand-cut diamonds and Zambian emeralds. To match her custom kaliras and chooda, the Shershaah star picked a diamond maang tika, that spoke in length about the signature Malhotra sparkle. But amidst every little detail that grabbed the internet’s attention, what stole the show was Kiara’s choice of emeralds. Ditching royal polki and yellow gold, the actress said yes to modern-day diamonds with a hint of colour play infused in her otherwise pink outfit. A true Sindhi bride in her defence, Advani managed to pack the opulence with sophistication, and carefully eliminated terms like OTT and tacky from the ensemble. The show-stopping appeal was a formula, loaned from actresses Nayanthara and Deepika Padukone, who chose to dazzle in the green gemstones during their respective wedding festivities. So, if you’re hoping to bathe in the glory of emeralds like bride Kiara, allow us to help you find your way to a special investment.

1. Deepika Padukone’s Royal Take

Back in November 2018, the Bajirao Mastani couple tied the knot in Italy and returned to India for two grand reception parties. In one of their reception dinners, hosted in Padukone’s hometown–Bengaluru, the actress picked a Kanjeevaram gold silk saree, a gift from her mother. The striking details, carved the opulence using statement emerald jewellery and a standout sindoor moment. The regal jewels by Sabyasachi included an impactful layering of an emerald choker with a long, pearl-string neckpiece. With that, Padukone added a pair of statement, emerald ear studs to compliment the greens, and strike a contrast with the lustrous golden saree. Here, brides can play safe with a bold emerald choker, over a more subtle shade of a saree.

2. Nayanthara’s Heritage Emeralds

Amongst the list of India’s celebrity brides in 2022 was actress–Nayanthara, who tied the knot with director–Vigensh Shivan, in a grand ceremony. For her nuptials, the actress picked a romantic, rose-red lacy saree by label–Jade. With that, the lady superstar played with royal emeralds to present her love for heirloom accessories. A part of her bridal jewellery moment by Goenka India included opulent neckpieces and South Indian-bridal accessories. Like Kiara, Nayanthara’s bridal ensemble presented a statement Zambian emerald choker, mixed with a variety of polki and Russian tumble necklaces, alongside a string of seven lines of diamond. The bespoke design was further completed with a show-stopping pair of ear studs, crafted using a combination of polki and Cabochon emeralds. For maximalist dressers, the idea of cooking a unique platter of heritage jewellery can include a variety of traditional strings, punctuated with emerald-hued motifs. Like Nayanthara, you can skip the use of an old-school gold choker and maang tika for an emerald-encrusted design, which brings a unique mix of culture and trends.

3. Patralekhaa’s Balanced Jewels

In our list of brides, who chose a traffic-stopping emerald neckpieces for their wedding festivities, is Rajkummar Rao’s wife/actress–Patralekhaa, who dished out a way of choosing emeralds in balanced amounts. For her wedding in 2021, the actress trusted celebrated couturier–Sabyasachi for her bridal saree. In the first few pictures from the mandap, we spotted her minimal approach towards styling emeralds, using a Sabyasachi matha-patti and choker. For this, Patralekhaa chose to add a layer of tiny droplets, dipped in coral green placed alongside her traditional matha patti and structured choker. With that, the actress sprinkled green on her jhumkas too, with a two-spiral structure, set in the core. Followed by her wedding day, was a grand, evening reception that sought inspiration from Deepika Padukone’s look for the Bengaluru wedding after-party. With her parted hair bun, Patralekhaa picked a stunning polki choker, decorated with crinkled emerald stones that cut the colour for a balanced appeal. This can be an interesting choice made by brides, who want to style emeralds but prevent them from overpowering your entire look.

4. Kareena Kapoor’s Chic Minimalism

For minimalists, a tiny stroke of greens around the neck can be a daunting task. With this shade of green, it is often hard to divide a viewer’s attention to every aspect of your ensemble. But our beloved Kareena has made this task a breezy affair. Not once, but thrice the actress delivered a moment in her heirloom, emerald-encrusted neckpiece. The delicate design, punctuated with a mix of topaz, and diamonds was styled by the actress in three understated glamorous ensembles. For a subtle, more poised approach towards the green gemstone, you can also follow Kapoor’s detailed route to styling emeralds on various occasions. From an intimate dinner with friends or a Diwali bash at home, the dainty design packages the essence of emeralds and envelopes it using more sparkling crystals for a more balanced look.

5. Anushka Sharma’s Coral Green

For the reception party of Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas, Sharma bathed in the opulence of emeralds in a head-to-toe Sabyasachi look. On Anushka, we spotted a more subtle yet striking version of emeralds, that matched her jaal-work, sheer saree. To compliment  the romantic, delicate drape, Sharma chose to accessorise her look with a fitted, emerald choker. Inspired by the jewellery treasures of the 60s, Sharma’s rose cut, Zambian emerald-encrusted neckpiece, was matched with a pair of leaf-shaped earrings in the same shade. The monochromatic look on Sharma is a daring combination of styling green on green, which is a rarely opted route by many. The trick to wisely use this monochromatic technique is to opt for a coral-hued, more supple version of the gemstone design, that adds more transparency and depth to the overall look. Unlike the traffic-stopping, bold stones, Sharma’s choice makes emeralds look feather-light.

6. Alia Bhatt’s Dual-Toned Emeralds

Emeralds can be used for more than one occasion, and in multiple forms to suit your style appetite. Just like Alia Bhatt, who gave an interesting twist to the emeralds with a splash of sapphire. For her popular saree moment at the Berlinale for the premiere of her film–Gangubai Kathiawadi, Bhatt teamed her Rimple & Harpreet Narula, white saree with a pair of sapphire and emerald-encrusted earrings by Anjali Bhimrajka Fine Jewels. This playful combination of two gemstones was crafted with the elegance of diamond petals, to match the base, pearl-white shade of the saree. With this, Alia welcomed colours to her signature Gangu-white drape with striking gemstones and smartly toned down the statement appeal of the sparkling stones.
