Exclusive: Saaksha And Kinni Showstopper Sobhita Dhulipala On Skipping Trends, A Celebrity Closet She Wishes To Raid And More
On Day 3 of FDCI X Lakmé Fashion Week, we witnessed a magnificent show by designers Saaksha and Kinni in partnership with Logitech. The designer duo’s presentation bridged the gap between style and technology. The Prism collection featured a colourful amalgamation of drapes, signature Saaksha and Kinni mirror work, punctuated with marodi embroidery. Headlining the showcase was actress Sobhita Dhulipala, who walked the runway in a monumental skirt, and knitted crop top. For Dhulipala, the show-stopping attire stood apart from the collection. In an exclusive conversation with Hauterrfly, Sobhita talked about skipping trends, a Bollywood actress’ closet that she would love to steal, and a lot more.

Q: What is comfortable luxury for you?
Sobhita Dhulipala: I think to be able to wear whatever the hell you wanna wear, no matter how much it costs or whatever, as long as it has a nice story to it. That to me is a kind of luxury, when it has a story, when there is some kind of culture and history, or an association with a design or a fabric, that seems to me very luxurious. As for comfort, I don’t know, I don’t prioritise it too much.

Q: A fashion trend that you are currently obsessed with?
Sobhita Dhulipala: I am really not into trends. In fact, I’m quite anti-trend. I think it’s not sustainable. I think it’s really unhealthy for the environment. I don’t like that as an attitude because I think we get latched onto one thing. It’s cool for a bit, we subscribe to it and then we move on. I don’t like that. I like to keep things that I love.

Q: Celebrities like Zendaya and Kim Kardashian have been recreating iconic celebrity looks from the past. Tell us that one iconic Bollywood celebrity look, that you would love to recreate today?
Sobhita Dhulipala: Not so much a specific look. I think I really like Rekha ji’s style and her aura and her essence, and that is something I have a lot of respect for. I really look up to her style because, anyone who is a maximum version of their own character, is really cool to me. So, I would love to do the Kanjeevarams, the gajras.

Q: We are seeing a new kind of style aesthetic on your Instagram grid. Is it a conscious choice that you are making?
Sobhita Dhulipala: I wear whatever I feel like on whatever days, particularly because, I am Gemini. So, I have many personalities and instead of having one streamlined aesthetic, which people box like– this is a hot person or a cute person. In my case, I like to keep it real, but being whichever person I’m feeling like on whatever day. So my wardrobe essentially is a mix of many contrasts and many different worlds banging into each other. I just try to stay true to my mood and enjoy it.
