Exclusive: Content Creator Diipa Büller Khosla On Her Showstopper Moment At FDCI X Lakmé Fashion Week, The Influencer Life And Building A Business
Day 1 of FDCI X Lakmé Fashion Week was all about monochrome magic, glitter in abundance and a lit-up gardenia. And presenting a version of the latter was designer duo–Shalini Jaikaria and Paras Bairoliya with their label–Geisha Designs. Titled–Luminescent, the range incorporated a heavy mix of cocktail dresses, fringed hemlines, 3D florals, and dazzling threads. Headlining the showcase for the label was content creator, global star and entrepreneur–Diipa Büller-Khosla, who paraded on the runway in an exquisite number from the collection. Inspired by the Garden of Eden, Diipa’s look was headlined by monumental floral motif, tasseled skirt and twinkling ends, that replicated the glimmer of fireflies. And taking us through her experience as the showstopper, her favourite fashion trend and the putting real over perfect, Diipa joins us for an exclusive conversation.

Q: Tell us something about your look.
Diipa Büller-Khosla: My look is inspired by the Garden of Eden, but at night. And it’s got this stunning big black flower right in the middle. That is such a statement piece, and then it’s got this cording with these tassels and a beautiful bead work in the bottom.

Q: How challenging is it to be relevant to a much larger audience, when juggling between content for India and overseas?
Diipa Büller-Khosla: I don’t think it’s very difficult, because I think being a global Indian myself, I resonate and relate to Indians all over the world and desis all over the world. And I find that the most ultimate joy of my life, which is to be able to create content for all of us desis, everywhere.

Q: You recently launched your brand Indié Wild, how has it been managing your work as a content creator and your business baby?
Diipa Büller-Khosla: I’ll be honest, it is difficult. But it’s about prioritising what is most important to you and say no, a lot more times. That’s the new big thing for me, that I say no.

Q: You’ve always put your real side on social media, even when you were struggling with an allergic reaction before your Cannes red carpet. How important is it for influencers to put their true self on the gram? Is it a conscious effort that you make?
Diipa Büller-Khosla: I think in today’s day and age, that is the one thing that relates us human beings to each other. Showing that it is not always perfect and sometimes showing that you struggle as a human being too. So, it’s something I share with a lot of joy. Sometimes it’s difficult to share such personal parts of yourself, but ultimately it’s for good. So, I do that.

Q: What is the biggest obstacle for this generation of influencers?
Diipa Büller-Khosla: The biggest obstacle is trying to be original. I think everybody’s trying to copy each other in trends or in looks or in fashion in every way, and I think it’s quite difficult to know who you are and be that unabashedly and, just completely be yourself.

Q: What is the one fashion trend that you are obsessed with?
Diipa Büller-Khosla: There are a lot of glitters right now and a lot of sequins, and just like sparkly vibes, and I’m loving that.
Q: Three skincare tips for our readers?
Diipa Büller-Khosla: One, drink a lot of water. It is cliche but true. Eat healthy, and keep your skincare routine, minimalistic, but good. And of course, SPF. Never forget SPF.
