Another day at FDCI India Couture Week witnessed the showcase of designer Dolly J’s spectacular collection. Titled–Meraki, Dolly J welcomed the essence of couture into her designs. Filled with sparkling sequins, fluid fabrics, decorative fur and jazz in abundance, Dolly’s idea loaned its inspiration from the depth of tranquillity within art. The headlining colour palette of this showcase incorporated a range of jewel tones, feather-laden skirts, and geometric hand-embroidery, mixed with delicate motifs.

The range incorporated a heavy mix of occasion wear, including lehenga-cholis with fur shoulders, ballroom gowns, ethereal sharara sets, and a fun play of fabric volumes. Walking for the designer, actress Shilpa Shetty made her way on the ramp. The actress turned showstopper for the designer’s latest showcase and looked no less spectacular. On Shilpa, we saw an interesting mix of every element that defined Dolly’s new collection. The ombré gown featured a massive cut-out around the waist, accompanied by chocolate brown and blush pink sequins, running from the bodice and spreading throughout the skirt. The ballroom number was every bit jazzy and had the correct flounce to support a twirl. Similar to some hero pieces in her collection, Shilpa’s skirt included a patterned usage of pink fur, fencing the dazzling embroidery. The collection indeed reflected the improvised harmonies of jazz, as suggested by the designer’s mood board.

Apart from Dolly J, designer Suneet Varma showcased his collection–Sitara. The updated representation of India’s modern woman’s sartorial taste sat at the core of this range. The homecoming of silhouettes like the lehenga-cholis, and sarees, mixed with interesting cut-work designs, unconventional necklines and monumental sleeves, embraced the romance of traditional Indian couture.
