FDCI India Couture Week is back for its annual visit. Showcasing an array of designs, the roster of presenters has us all excited. And one of the most celebrated names in the world of design, designer Varun Bahl showcased his latest collection, last night. The couturier had all eyes on his designs and of course the showstopper, with the impeccable presentation of his latest collection. Titled–New Leaf, every piece from the wide range of lehengas, flaunted an intricate design construction, fabric play in abundance and colours.

Varun infused the magic of flora and fauna to build a variety of textures, 3D embroideries, and up-cycled patchwork embroidery, all packed well with sequins, feathers, velvet and silk. The assembly of kat dana, sequin-laden appliqué, massive tulles and of course lehengas that came with pockets, stole the spotlight.

Amidst all the colour play, and the best of occasion wear, what took centre stage was the collection’s lovely muse, actress Rashmika Mandanna. Parading to the loud theatrical opera tunes, the actress marked her debut at the FDCI India Couture Week in one of the finest pieces from Varun’s latest showcase. A red lehenga choli, that incorporated a heavy blend of red roses, detailed thread work, beaded hemlines, teamed with bustier choli, brought the modern day aesthetic with the evergreen classics. The actress teamed the look with an ivory jadau kundan and polki neckpiece by Sehgal Jewellers. She further completed her bridal avatar with hair styled into easy curls and light makeup, sealed with glossy lids and lips.

Apart from Rashmika’s ethereal red lehenga, the designer’s new collection brought the wilderness of forests, with blooming flowers on every silhouette. Every piece redefined luxury through the usage of lustrous fabrics like silk, statement reds, and gold. The silhouettes were introduced in a freshly cut format, with strong shoulder pads, sheer bodysuits, see-through, floral stockings, cutwork hemlines and dramatic fabric play.
FDCI’s India Couture Week 2022 has so far witnessed some fresh presentations by designers Rahul Mishra, Tarun Tahiliani and JJ Valaya.
