6 New-Age Promises To Make To Your Siblings On Raksha Bandhan, Kyunki Modern Problems Require Modern Solutions!

6 New-Age Promises To Make To Your Siblings On Raksha Bandhan, Kyunki Modern Problems Require Modern Solutions!

One of my favourite festivals is here – raksha bandhan. It is the festival that celebrates the bond between siblings with promises to protect each other. But did you know that it is also patriarchal in nature? I mean, it is now that two sisters tie rakhi to each other or a brother ties rakhi to his sister, but it wasn’t always like that. First, it was all about sisters tying rakhi to their brothers and depending on them for protection of any and every kind. Well, things are changing and so have the ideologies. We live in the 21st century, the modern age, so why then make these age-old promises? We, women, are extremely capable of taking care of ourselves and are not some damsel in distress who needs a man (even if it is her brother) to come and save her.

So, this raksha bandhan, instead of sticking to the old-age promises of the brother protecting the sister, let’s do it the modern way while still keeping the emotions alive. Here are 6 new-age and modern promises you can make to your siblings while you tie them rakhi this raksha bandhan:

1. Promise to help you sneak back in late at night

Sneaking out for a party is far easier than sneaking back in. And trust me, this is the time you need your sibling the most – I mean, who else is going to make excuses for you and open the door when you’ve gone way beyond your curfew?

2. Promise to not only teach you but also create reels with you

This is the need of the hour. For someone like me who is technologically impaired, I definitely need someone to not only teach me how to make reels but also create them with me and at times be my assistant in creating them.

3. Promise to pick your drunk a** from a party

Is there anyone else you can trust more than your sibling to get your drunken a** home? I think not. Of course, they’re going to have leverage over you but hey, you’ll at least be safe and we all know how fast the tables can turn, don’t we?

4. Promise to support your every dream

Whether the dream is to study further or move to a whole new city, having someone that supports your dream – that feeling is incomparable. This raksha bandhan, support your siblings in their dreams and push them to achieve it. The smile on their face when they live their dream will be so worth it.

5. Promise to save you from aunties pressurising you to get married

Wedding season or not, there are aunties all around who just can’t mind their own business and will put pressure to get married. And at times, trust me, it’s better to do what you do best – give savage replies to shut them out which borderline might sound rude, but does the job perfectly.

6. Promise to be the mediator between our parents and you in your rebellion

It’s not easy getting through to your parents and as a child of theirs, you know this to be true. So, if you see your sibling rebelling for a cause, be nice and try being a mediator between them. Now, this is not going to be easy but you know that your sibling is being so stubborn because that topic means a lot to them.
