Nature Yet Again Played The Protagonist At Rahul Mishra’s Opening Show For FDCI X Lakmé Fashion Week 2022

Returning back to his home territory–nature, Rahul Mishra flagged off 2022’s FDCI X Lakmé Fashion Week. With the Italian embassy in Delhi serving as the perfect destination for the designer’s ever-blooming update to spring couture wear, it’s a coming home feeling for Rahul Mishra whose memory lane has at all times, crossed by Italy’s picturesque locations. Titled– ‘The Enchanted Garden’ the showcase in many ways paid homage to the designer’s signature standout two and three-dimensional embroidery weaved with threads and sequins essaying the glorious welcome of spring.

Featuring a roaster of interesting silhouette designs, we couldn’t help but gaze at every possible construction that graced our sight. A happy play of textures, the collection showcased a mix of sheer net fabric, cut-work embroidery, sequins, ruffles and dramatic twists, with every piece in the collection mirroring the mood of spring, pretty much what the location set-up had in store for us. Models walked wearing the stunning designs, with dewy skin and equally lit up make-up and a piece of handcrafted floral cut-work, playing the role of hair accessories.

Taking cues from the whimsical Himalayan spring, the handcrafted designs resonated the cotton candy clouds filling the clear blue skies, with nature playing the protagonist of his winning show. Dividing the collection into three different themes, Rahul Mishra’s design dialogue describes the Spring edit as– realistic, imaginative, and surreal. A deep dive into the mysterious & splendid elements of nature, the collection witnessed exaggerated sleeves featuring intricate ruffles, with statement floral motifs, layered one on top of the other, headlined by Himalayan poppies, calla lilies, fox gloves, bellflowers, hollyhocks, and iris gracing structured jackets, sarees, elongated gowns, bodysuits, and a mix of festive wear. The surface of every textile was illuminated by a harmony of sequin work on the shoulders, and bodice, which reminded me of Rahul Mishra’s classic crafted construction. Tailor-made with ease, the easy-going and flounce created by every silhouette and fabric presented an idea of freedom and a room to experiment.

A flirtation between first-hand experiences and fantastical imagination, as Rahul describes the line-up himself, it brought under the spotlight his experiences and thoughts through his time in Italy and memorable travel journeys. His love for Italy’s rich historical traces in art, fashion and architecture was intricately weaved in the design language of the showcase. The line up of models remained as inclusive as the stunning creations, which indeed was a breath of fresh air.
