Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2016: Day 4 & 5 Report

Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2016: Day 4 & 5 Report

Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2016 came to a glittering close last night with fashion maestro Sabyasachi Mukherjee leaving jaws gaping with his collection ‘Illuminate’. Day 4 and 5 saw numerous B-town celebrities take the ramp for some of the biggest names in Indian fashion. From resort wear to bridal wear, this season has us covered.

Anushree Reddy’s festive and bridal wear collection in pastel pinks, bright orange, sunshine yellow, and pista green was a breath of fresh air. Ajay Kumar showcased a quirky collection of funky suits and lots of layering that set him apart. Amoh by Jade was all about long, flowy, anti-fit silhouettes in metallic shimmer that are perfect for pre-wedding functions. Sayani Gupta looked fierce as she closed for the sexy, uber chic Aaylixir collection that was primarily in jewel tones, which we loved.

Karisma Kapoor looked ageless as she took the catwalk for Architha Narayanam, whose collection comprised lehengas, saris, and long jackets over anarkalis. Though Ekam’s collection was a little out there, the funky motifs and unusual hemlines sure caught our attention. Kanelee showcased a winter-appropriate range in a palette of blues that looked both wearable and dreamy. Kriti Sanon, resplendent in a printed embroidered maxi, closed the Label by Ritu Kumar show, which was a fine balance between sporty and feminine.

Asa Kazingmei’s menswear collection was edgy and very biker-like — perfect for the bad boys we all know! Diesel styled an adorable and uber cool kidswear collection for Hamleys that was closed by Bollywood serial kisser Emraan Hashmi and his son. Our favourite part of Kunal Rawal’s ethnic menswear collection (apart from the dishy showstopper Ranbir Kapoor) was the inclusion of Nehru jackets on relaxed punjabi kurta combos. Vineet and Rahul chose contrasting earthy tones for their anti-fit layered pieces with some interesting add-ons, like the kimono-style jacket we have our eye on.

Bipasha Basu looked every bit the newly-wed bride in a stunning red, white, and gold sari for Sanjukta Datta’s ethnic collection. Ileana D’Cruz glided down the ramp in a beautifully embroidered plum lehenga, closing Ridhi Mehra’s show. True to her signature style, Payal Khandwala showed lehenga skirts, palazzos, jackets and cropped tops in rich jewel tones on silks and brocades, stunning the attendees.

Radhika Apte gave us #bridalgoals as the showstopper for Saroj Jalan’s elegant and regal wedding collection. Pernia Qureshi was a spot of sunshine as she closed for Seamless Loops by Pinakin is a dull gold flouncy-skirt-and-crop top combo. Shantanu & Nikhil’s Great Gatsby-esque transported us to the 1920s and yet kept things chic and contemporary — as they always do. Shivan & Naresh upped the mercury at the venue with their sizzling resort wear collection of kaftans, monokinis, bikinis, beach cover-ups and cutaway swimsuits — too hot to handle.

Sumona Parekh did wearable bridal couture with bralets teamed with dhoti pants, crop tops and palazzos and ghagra skirts with tie-up tops, in innately Indian fabrics and finish. Prachi Desai closed the show for Sva by Sonam and Paras in a cold-shoulder cape blouse with a lovely embroidered ghagra that perfectly displayed her newly-made sculpted abs. Swati Vijay Vargie’s collection celebrated brighter shades and loud prints on avant-garde ethnic and Indo-western pieces. The flawlessly translucent Dia Mirza closed for the surprisingly stunning silk sari collection by Tulsi Silks — a relatively lesser-known name that is on our Haute List now.
