#HauteHack: How To Remove Dirt From Fabric Shoes

I don’t think you’ll be surprised when I say that most times when I research hacks, it’s based on conversations I have with the #HauteSquad. Earlier this week, I noticed a super cute, icy blue pair of fabric sneakers on our new lifestyle writer Japleen Kaur. I complimented her on the adorable find, but she thought I was pulling her leg because they were dirty from a recent trip to Goa (to be honest, they were soiled just around the edges of the soles, and I didn’t even notice them). That’s when I realised the dilemmas of sneaker lovers are so many — Hey stranger, try to avoid stepping on my white sneakers, will you please? May the gods prevent any speck of dirt from falling on my white keds! Why won’t that little stain wash off? Did she compliment me on that pair or was she making fun of the trace of dirt only I can see?!

Yea well, dirty shoes are troublesome. Even I’ve tucked away one of my favourite pair of Converse for months now because they are slightly stained, and the shoe laundry guys quoted a rate I was shocked to hear. Since it’s not too late, I decided to find out ways to remove dirt from a pair of cloth sneakers.

In case your regular detergent isn’t really helping you clean up those stains, here’s a miracle product that will do the trick: baking soda. Yes, you heard that right! Just make a paste of baking soda and detergent with water, and apply it on the dirt spots of your cloth shoes. Scrub in circular motions using an old toothpaste till the dirt is gone. Post this, rinse your shoe under lukewarm water, and voila… clean shoes in no time!

Isn’t that a super easy, super cheap trick? That funky pair can now be worn without you thinking of the dirt on it. Also, I’d like to know if the hack worked; share your thoughts in the comments below!
