Here’s How The Grandpa Staple Turned Celebrity Favourite Tweed Can Spice Up Your Wardrobe
Tweed, a popular patterned fabric curated out of woven dyed wool, has remained a runaway favourite for years. Over the many fashion weeks that the world has seen, the Scotland-native tweed has made its mark every year. With traces found as early as the 18th century, the fabric earned its first set of customers in the elitist section of old England. A classic, formal favourite fabric, tweed has served the best of designs curated by French luxury fashion house–Chanel since the 1920s. The idea of keeping you warm on a windy day or a cold winter evening is always accompanied by this fabric, that packs both function and style. Many versions of this fabric have brought together silhouettes like blazer, co-ord sets, skirts and interesting variations of bags, sneakers and sunglasses introduced by tweed’s favourite designer house–Chanel.
A classic example of this well-appreciated fabric was amongst the best-kept pieces of Warren Beatty’s character–Clyde Barrow in his 1967 film–Bonnie and Clyde or Ryan Reynolds’ neutral tweed jacket in the 2015 drama–Mississippi Grind. Oh, and also our beloved Mr Bean’s famous brown coat with moss green tweed. Sliding away from a man’s dusky-hued coat stack to more lively and energetic shapes and forms, tweed has rebuilt its modern-day existence.

This fall’s favourite fabric has already found its fan in celebrities like Kristen Stewart who made a statement in a tweed pantsuit at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Another of my favourite tweed looks has been brought to life by actress Sonam Kapoor, who sported a mint and black, dress-blazer combo in her film–Aisha. Besides Sonam, a flavourful example of the same is actress Ananya Panday’s latest co-ord set. Taking the grandpa coat material to a celebrity gala, the Liger actress picked a cherry, checkered tweed crop top and matching bouclé skort, with black embellished buttons to complete the piece. Just like Ananya, Blackpink’s Jennie too loves to go an extra mile to dish out a tweed playsuit, set and cool accessories. From skorts to skirts, the fabric is popular amongst the well-known star cast of Riverdale, as well.
