From Deepika Padukone To Bella Hadid, These Stars Made Some Winning Sartorial Decisions At Cannes 2022

The Cannes Film Festival has officially concluded this year, but there is still so much we wanna talk about this year’s film festival. Offering a big platform for the movie world’s biggest stars, the red carpet witnessed celebrities marking their attendance in their stylish best. From Deepika Padukone, and Rebecca Hall to Bella Hadid, celebrities made sure of serving us with a dose of their winning sartorial skills on the scintillating carpet. And as we bid the film festival goodbye, we just wanna take a moment and appreciate every fashion experiment and successful look that made it to the best style moments of the Cannes Film Festival this year. So let’s dig right in?

Deepika Padukone

A proud moment for India, as Deepika Padukone took the seat on the year’s jury, the Gehraiyaan actress was no less winner on the sartorial front as well. From her favourite Sabyasachi saree to dressing up in Louis Vuitton, Deepika’s style collaborations never had a dull moment. And as we take a moment and cherish her Cannes’22 lookbook, I must say it’s hard to pick one. Amongst the many spectacular designs that Deepika chose to dazzle in, our favourite are the ultimate saree moments. With no bias playing in between, we loved Deepika’s retro andaaz in sparkling Sabyasachi saree during the opening ceremony and a dramatic, off-white drape by Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla for the closing event. These two looks will always remain close to our hearts and brightest on style charts.

Bella Hadid

There has never been one such year in the history of the prestigious film festival, when Bella Hadid has arrived and not slayed. A lover of all things vintage, with an eye for always picking the best, Bella made an extra effort to pull out designs from history and serve only the best looks for us. While the supermodel was an absolute dream to look at, in a vintage Gucci gown on the red carpet, our pick from her Cannes’22 lookbook has to be the fun-frilled vintage Chanel dress. Featuring ruffled, billowing sleeves, and a multi-tier form, Bella dolled up in an ’80s frou-frou dress pulled out from Karl Lagerfeld’s fall 1986 collection. The vintage, monochrome number as seen on Bella drew inspiration from Spain’s famous folklore–Flamenco’s costume.

Anne Hathaway

Indeed a princess whose style diaries I would really love to steal, Anne Hathaway made us fall in love with her, yet again. Turning muse to designer label–Armani, Anne arrived in a dove white coloured, custom sequinned column gown and a matching trail that also performed the duties of a shawl. Aligning the simplicity of her Armani Privé gown with her jewels, Anne made a wise decision with Bulgari’s Mediterranean Reverie necklace as her choice for the evening. Well, saying that we loved only one of Anne’s looks from Cannes’22, would be like lying to the world. Right? I mean, how can one forget the spectacular Gucci moment? A sheen mini dress with structured semi-conical latex bodice, Anne suggested she’s still in love with classic Hollywood glamour, as she debuted her beehive half ponytail and a pair of statement cat-eye sunglasses. I will always remember Anne at Cannes.

Carla Bruni

I wasn’t ready to witness something so stunning when pictures of Carla Bruni in an ethereal Celine dress,  paid a surprise visit on my Instagram feed. Since then, I have been in love with both Carla and the blooming lilac dress. Arriving for the premiere of Triangle Of Sadness, Carla was sure she has worked her magic with Celine’s glittering lilac gown, paired with a multi-hued precious stone necklace by Bulgari. A perfect example of sartorial excellence, the relaxed fit, featuring thin shoulder straps and a cowl neck, suggested that it’s about the magnificence of the persona and not just the dress they wear.

Isabelle Huppert

A look I feel has been the least spoken about, Isabelle in Balenciaga on the Cannes red carpet is sheer brilliance. Wrapping herself in frog green, Isabelle proved fashion can never be boxed into criteria of age, gender, colour, creed and more. In no time heads literally turned, when Isabelle arrived in a green gown by Balenciaga. Decorating her already larger than life persona, the green, thigh-high slit gown featured intricate ruched detail on the sleeves, and bodice. She further teamed the green smartly with a matching pair of green stockings and heels. Marking her arrival on the red carpet were elements like black sunglasses and diamond ear cuffs. And if you think only Kim Kardashian could slay this style like a glove in a hand, then you guys we gotta say her competition has finally arrived.

Kristen Stewart

I just love the way, Kristen always owns the red carpet and presents her version of red carpet dressing, each damn time. As noticed in Kristen’s previous visits on the scintillating carpet, the Spencer actress believes in giving the classic ballroom numbers a break, with a spin given to statement-making ensembles. Arriving for the Cannes Film Festival this year, Kristen dropped some gorgeous and fuss-free looks, but our favourite was the Chanel tweed pantsuit, sans shirt. Taking the label’s famous tweed set for a spin, Kristen sealed the look with yellow-tinted sunglasses, open hair and black platform heels, with the button down blazer cutting an edge in every frame she was captured in.

Adriana Lima

Walking in the footsteps of the newest and hottest mommy in town–Rihanna, Brazilian model–Adriana Lima decided to put her pregnant belly on display at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Delivering a never-seen-before maternity fashion moment on the red carpet, I still remember clapping for her, as I rushed to re-share her first glimpse from the carpet with my colleagues. For the big moment, Adriana trusted Olivier Rousteing, Creative Director at Balmain to dress her up. As suggested by the pictures, Adriana was a vision in black, cut-out, ruched and draped number, screaming out loud about her pregnancy. It was indeed a family moment for the mom-to-be Brazilian model who was accompanied by boyfriend Andre Lemmers on the red carpet. We love!

Rebecca Hall

Jury member Rebecca Hall was no less shiny than her co-jurors including our very own Deepika Padukone. From the grand Burberry moment at the opening ceremony to the scintillating Gucci moment, which btw is my favourite, Rebecca was well-suited for the event at all times. Posing alongside Deepika’s showstopping Sabyasachi saree avatar, Rebecca’s high-octane pink and red Gucci gown was no less stunning. Adorned with crystals, the custom Gucci number featured ruffled sleeves, padded shoulders, two-tone lace panels and sequin lines headlining the bodice. And sprinkling the sparkling look with some love straight from home, Rebecca sealed the deal with a pair of statement white drop earrings, that she loaned from her mom.

Jeanne Cadieu

Jake Gyllenhaal’s girlfriend and French model Jeanne Cadieu was one amongst the style experimenters at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Trusting Spanish luxury fashion house–Loewe’s prowess in unconventional designs, Jeanne’s attire was an unmissable affair on the red carpet. Styling a piece from Loewe’s fall/winter collection, Jake’s date for the evening arrived in bright pink, strapless gown featuring a massive fuller lips motif in latex on the top, with a side slit allowing room for her metallic silver heels that looked nothing short of a gift wrap. The quirky ensemble didn’t end right there, as it was put together with a finishing touch added by Loewe’s blue bracelet pouch bag. While many wouldn’t agree with Jeanne’s idea of choosing eccentric over classic red carpet ballroom gowns, I am totally in love and would like to offer some extra brownie points for making an effort and experimenting. Jake is a lucky man, I must say.

Noomi Rapace

Another juror at this year’s Cannes Film Festival to steal the limelight with her sartorial presence was Swedish star, Noomi Rapace. As I recollect my favourite fashion moments from Cannes’22, Noomi’s red opera gloves rush to take the first spot in my head. For the screening of Elvis, Noomi arrived in a monochrome printed gown with voluminous sleeves by Belgian designer Dries van Noten. Fairly a smart pick from the designer’s Fall 2022 collection, Noomi seemed tangled in the busy print but her Paula Rowan, Montserrat red gloves were the saving grace here. The reasonable amount of colour play and the right choice of accessories made the look a winner for us.
