Barbiecore, Coastal Grandmother, E Girl: Find Your Style Vibe From Our List Of Fashion Aesthetics

Just like our changing moods, our closets too have one for every season. With the advent of social networking sites and an aggressive conversation around ‘what’s your aesthetic like?’ fashion has found its branches. From Normcore, Vintage, and Y2k to now Barbiecore, and E-Girl, everyone’s hoping to dive deep into the sea of fashion’s favourite aesthetics, that are bound to change with time. While this surely hasn’t been a new term for those who are religiously keeping a tab of newly-found terms. It has been since the late 60s that aesthetic in a rather unknown term, existed in every closet. The term in the world today, plays an important part in defining an individual’s distinct vibe, pictures on their Instagram grid or a term to help explain to our parents about her likes and dislikes. Aesthetic, as we use it today is much more like an everyday chore, that needs to be fed both online and offline. And helping you find your own (if you still haven’t), we have listed down our current favourite fashion aesthetics, that you can try for yourself. Let’s get started?

Barbiecore

With a hyped-up discussion around Barbie’s favourite colour pink, this trend is your way to embrace the shade to its fullest. From Valentino’s Pink PP collection, Marget Robbie’s first look from the Barbie film and Kim Kardashian turning into a real-life Barbie for Balenciaga, this aesthetic hopes to see you dipped in pink, just like the 80’s, when the trend actually found its footing.

Coastal Grandmother

A delightful addition to TikTok’s list of trends, this nostalgia-inducing aesthetic is filled with straw hats, and comfortable linen, packed with jute mules and old-school prints. VSCO Girl

Loaning inspiration from the picture and video editing app–VSCO, a VSCO girl is pretty much like a California girl. The aesthetic steals some elements from the surfer lifestyle. Normcore

Romanticising the ever-so-basic style choices made by minimalists, Normcore is super easy to replicate. Daring to stay away from the extravaganza offered by a million other trends, Normcore was first heard in the glossy pages of a trend report in 2013. This aesthetic is all about embracing the simplicity of basics, offered by solid-hued shirts, stonewashed denim, dad sneakers, baseball caps, polo t-shirts and everything you can imagine being sported by our beloved Chandler from Friends.

E-Girl

This trend found its path by the virtue of internet, and fast pacing applications. As defined by the Urban Dictionary, an Electronic girl is someone who “watches anime and dresses kinda Lolita”. This interestingly indicates the aesthetic inspiration the Japanese street style aesthetic. The TikTok-born trend takes you inside the hidden closets of famous onscreen characters like–Harley Quinn or a transformed Kat from Euphoria. An E-Girl loves to wear graphic t-shirts, slides into fishnet tights, embraces neons, goes all out with beanies, experiments with butterfly clips, draws hearts under her eyes, and paints colourful tears.

Indie

As the name suggests, Indie style aesthetic isn’t about big fashion labels or swimming in luxury, but finding a way to dish out your individuality. This aesthetic talks about a variety of casual wear, and endorses the idea of thrifting (which sure has found its base in the last two years). An Indie kid is someone who wears checkered sweater vests, skater skirts, invests in bandanas, bell bottoms, and takes tons of references from the 80s.
