Alia, Lily Collins And More Celebs Used Fashion To Market Films In 2022

If you ask an actor, making a movie is an easier task than marketing it. From dancing at a million malls, and travelling to the deepest pockets of the country to going on reality television shows for fake laughs, one needs some extra skills to promote their movies. And amongst the many techniques that actors use to do so, fashion has happily become a part of the list. How fashion pushes the plot in a movie, it today has become an imperative aspect whole promoting a film too. As adopted by many of our beloved actors in the year 2022, we spotted many important style decisions made between actors and their stylists as well. Take a look at some of the most remarkable promotion closets weaved by these actors.

Jenna Ortega Going The Wednesday Way

One of the biggest trend makers of the year was actress Jenna Ortega’s, Wednesday Addams. Jenna reprised gothic fashion through a set of new designs while promoting Netflix’s Wednesday Addams. And while reviving an already iconic character was a task that Ortega took on, she also aced at dressing herself the Wednesday way. Dripping in black, the actress pulled off some mesh fabrics, frill tutu dresses, and kohl eyes like her character look. A standout piece from the press tour was her lacy, black Versace wedding gown, which she coupled with a veil and her signature death stare.

Alia Bhatt Our Gangu In White

After many, many new release dates, Alia’s Gangubai Kathiawadi finally appeared like a beautiful chaand on our screens, with a full-fledged press tour in place. Here, Gangu’s signature colour white played the protagonist of Alia’s promotion wardrobe and headlined literally every attire that she wore. For even the prestigious Berlin Film Festival, Alia wore a gorgeous Rimple and Harpreet saree for the film’s special screening.

Taapsee Pannu In Blurry Black

Actress Taapsee Pannu took a dip in a sea of black outfits to promote her film–Blurr this year. For the horror/thriller genre, Pannu collaborated with stylist Devki Bhatt to curate a wardrobe that was filled with black outfits. Giving it a nostalgic, mysterious appeal, Pannu also used a new way of capturing herself in a list of power suits, roomy dresses, and more. The idea and aesthetic of these photoshoots took inspiration from the film’s visual presentation.

Bhumi Pednekar’s Language Of Love

Actress Bhumi Pednekar promoted her 2022 film–Badhaai Do, about the LGBTQIA+ community. For the same, the actress curated a bunch of mixed silhouette options, but one look stood out amongst the rest. For one of her appearances on a reality show, Pednekar wore a custom-made saree by designers Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla. The love saree on the actress featured a typography embroidery in red, featuring the word love’s translation in various languages. The silhouette was to promote the message of the film as well, which meant–”Love is universal, and for all.”

Zoë Kravitz The Catwoman

For one of the year’s biggest blockbuster–The Batman, actress Zoë Kravitz, paid homage to her Catwoman character in the film through her promotion wardrobe. For two distinct premieres of the movie, the actress wore Catwoman-inspired looks. For one, Zoë pulled off a vintage look from the archives of designer Helmut Lang’s 1989 “kitty titties” look, which featured cat face-shaped silhouettes on the bodice. For look two, Kravitz took a rather risqué route and picked up a wild boob-cut dress designed by YSL. The silhouette replicated the look of batman eyes, and well created a lot of buzz on the internet.

Kajol Painting Our Screens Red For Salaam Venky

Again using colour as a trick to build her promotion closet, Kajol chose to weave the power of red in all her looks. With sarees in abundance, symbolising courage, love and sacrifice, the actress used the importance of the shade in her latest film–Salaam Venky, which also takes a similar plot approach. Replicating her look from the film’s poster, the actress chose the colour to wear a multitude of sarees, and experimented with velvet kurtas, red roses, and involved little elements of the shade as an ode to her film.

Kiara Advani For JuggJug Jeeyo

The film might not be one of my favourites, but actress Kiara Advani’s semi-ethnic looks for the promotion were bang on right. For the press tour of the film, Advani channelled her character Naina Khanna, with a range of festive sets, embroidered pants, and capes, teamed with delicate jewellery. The exquisite range in her wardrobe turned inspiration for wedding fashion and had many of us hopping to designer websites to recreate her look.

Lily Collins Prepping To Look Parisian

For three consecutive Decembers, Lily Collins returned in her Emily In Paris, chic avatar for the promotions of the Netflix show. This time again, madam Collins has prepped some Parisian look to dress the American Emily she plays in the show. Matching the wardrobe aesthetic of Emily, which screams maximalism, Lily has continued to keep her hair bangs and wear some bright colours, as Emily does in the renewed season.
