The Baguette Is Back! Fendi Relaunches The Iconic Purple Bag From ‘Sex And The City!’
Did you hear? The iconic baguette is back. Yes, the one from Sex And The City. While everything from the shoes, outfits to the bags still remain classic, treasured pieces of fashion from the show, but the purple sequinned baguette bag is a little too extra closer to our hearts. Popularised in the early episodes of the show where Carrie is seen being robbed and yells “It’s a baguette” the piece was one amongst the Manolo Blahnik heels that made headlines in mainstream fashion and were on every shopper’s radar.
And with the reboot of Sex And The City, with And Just Like That..making it to every home, the iconic bag too is all set to be filled in your shopping carts.
Pulled out from the archives of Fendi’s Fall/Winter 1999-2000 collection, the luxury fashion house has announced a re-edition of the exact same baguette featuring the signature FF clasp and a long, detachable strap.

Dropping the happy news of the restock, the Fendi website reads, “Iconic medium Baguette bag finely embroidered all-over with purple sequins of different shapes and sizes to create a 3D effect and decorated with an FF clasp. This style is a re-release of the original version first introduced in the Autumn/Winter 1999-2000 Collection. Features a front flap, tone on tone leather details and magnetic clasp. Internal compartment with zip pocket and gold-finish metalware. The bag can be carried by hand, or worn either on the shoulder or cross-body thanks to the leather handle and shoulder strap, both detachable. Made in Italy.”
While the bag is not just making a comeback on the Fendi website but has made a cameo in the reboot of the iconic series too (spoiler alert), as pointed out by a fan. Writing his observation on Instagram, fashion columnist and fan of the show Evan Ross Katz wrote, “It’s all in the details! Twenty-one years after Carrie was mugged on Jersey Street in Soho (‘Give me your bag.’ ‘What?’ ‘Your bag.’ ‘It’s a baguette.’), her iconic purple sequined Fendi Autumn/Winter 1999-2000 baguette re-emerged in the latest episode of AND JUST LIKE THAT, signifying Carrie’s return home.”
Responding to the spot on observation our beloved onscreen Carrie AKA Sarah Jessica Parker approved, “Man you are good!!! X.”

And just like that… 21 years post selling a million pieces of the iconic baguette, and courtesy of its still growing popularity, Fendi for many has turned out to be the secret Santa we didn’t know we’ll be getting this year. I mean, could it be any more perfectly timed?
