Exclusive: At Lakmé Fashion Week X FDCI Rakul Preet Talks Fashion And Discomfort, Khadi, Summer Makeup, And More

Lakmé Fashion Week X FDCI inaugurated its first season of the year 2023. Day 1, was all about sustainable fashion, pushing the idea of conscious, cost-effective clothing and making Khadi, the new cool. Runway collections from the day featured designers–Anavila Misra, Vaishali S, and GenNext creators. While the day saw experimental clothing and couture fabrics, walk the runway, the closing show of Day 1, was a special ode to India’s love affair with Khadi. In a collection presented by Khadi India, designers Suket Dhir, Divyam Mehta, Shruti Sancheti, and CoEK-Khadi India gave India’s freedom fabric a new twist. Walking in designer versions of Khadi, were actors Rakul Preet and Vijay Varma, who happily celebrated the revival of Khadi’s new identity. While we sat down to witness the beautiful showcase by India’s leading minds, actress Rakul Preet, the showstopper for designer Shruti Sancheti, joined us behind the scenes and answered some fun questions on fashion, comfort and Khadi being the new cool.

Q: What are you wearing?

Rakul Preet: Well, I’m wearing this beautiful outfit from the collection named Khadder by Shruti Sancheti. I love this outfit because it’s so modern and contemporary. It’s so young, it can be worn on different occasions, in different styles. Generally you don’t see people experiment so much with Kadi. So what I love is that we’ve brought the old-age tradition of Indian weave into modern styling through this outfit.

Q: What is the one element in your makeup kit that you can not live without?

Rakul Preet: In my makeup kit is my lip balm.

Q: A summer skincare makeup hack you swear by?

Rakul Preet: Just less makeup. I think less is more. I do not like it when your pores are totally clogged with your foundation. It should always be sheer and just natural colours on your eyes. Use of more subtle tones, nice pink cheeks, I think look the best.

Q: A celebrity wardrobe that you would love to steal?

Rakul Preet: Zendaya

Q: What are the three clothing items, colours, or styles you would never wear?

Rakul Preet: I’ll never wear those bell-bottom pants. I don’t understand them, then I’ll never wear that gharara– that skirt worn under a  kurta. I don’t understand that style. I don’t know about a third might experiment.

Q: Celebrities often slide into uncomfortable attires the name of fashion.  Have you ever done that?

Rakul Preet: I would have, but then I realised that I can’t do it. My sense of style is all about comfort. So now, if you see in the last few years, I think for me, I should be able to walk in the shoes that I’m deciding to wear. I should be comfortable when I sit. I don’t wanna be closing my slit while I’m walking. So I just feel that whatever dress for the occasion, if the occasion calls for it, you can carry it, flaunt it but comfort is first for me,

Q: A pro styling tip that celebrities use for red carpet events and that you would like to share with us?

Rakul Preet: I think each one has its own styling tip. There’s a team of stylists that’s working, so it can never be one for all. As I said, for me it’s about comfort.

Q: How do you take hate and unpleasant reviews on your outfit?

Rakul Preet: I don’t read them. I don’t read the good, I don’t read the bad. I chose to wear the outfit, because I liked it. I wore it for myself and I enjoyed the evening or the morning whenever I wore it.
